Permissable Purpose

I have a collection being reported on my account that was paid off in March of 2003. It's being reported by the original creditor (Integrity Payment Systems). I have been disputing this for some time and I recently sent them a DV (11/20/07) and they pulled my credit (11/26/07) are they allowed to do this?

When I paid the debt off I had used a restrictive endorsement on the check stating that they would delete this from my credit. Since I am in GA restrictive endorsements are recognized and I thought that I would give it a try and see where it goes.

I'm not hip on GA law considering that I don't live in GA nor am I an attorney, but if restrictive endorsements are in fact recognized, I wouldn't be so much concerned about the hard pull on the CR as the fact that they deposited the check (I'm assuming) yet didn't remove the account from your CR's. If I knew more about this particular situation, I would most definitely offer more constructive advice.

However, from what I understand, furnishers of data to the CRA's have permissible purpose to view your credit report if they are currently reporting. If I'm wrong on that, I'll be corrected. :)

They do but it should be coded as current creditor review (or some such thing) which would be considered soft vs. hard. Least that is how I've always gotten mine removed. :D

Could you explain this in more detail?

Take a EQ CR for example, there are two sections for inquries. The second states:

Inquiries that do not display to companies (do not impact your credit score)

(This section includes inquiries which display only to you and are not considered when evaluating your credit worthiness. -examples of this inquiry type include a pre-approved offer of credit, insurance, or periodic review by an existing creditor)

TU and EXP also list existing creditors under the inquiry section that only shows to you (soft pulls) and don't effect your credit score. I take that to mean anyone who is listing a TL on your CR.

Many times they are also noted as "AR" for "Account Review".
