Score for "Bill me later"?

Recommended Posts

I can also tell you that if you have a fraud alert, they will just out and out decline you -- no "please call us to confirm your identity." I got a message that they could not process me online and expected a phone call or email to verify ID. I got a letter stating I was declined due to the fraud alert specifically.

There's been a good bit of radio talk about "BML" lately. Seems like they have some crooks working there that have been selling consumer info to identity thieves. It got my attention the other day cause my problems with fraud accounts being put on my TU files came soon after I applied for BML one night while buying some stuff online. Most of the victims reported the bad stuff coming from the northeastern states.

Just a thought - might be worth Googling.

Wow, good to know, Point. This Jersey boy will definitely tread carefully...in truth I was able to find a cheaper product than the item I saw for BML. However the info I gathered for BML is good to know. If anyone else has anything they want to add, I will definitely find it worthy of a read.

BML can deny you credit based on having a FA on your EQ report? Is that legal? I do not have experience with FA's, but that doesn't seem right.

They probably do it for compliance with the CYA Principle (Cover Your a$$). In this case though, they rather be safe than sorry and I don't necessarily disagree with that. Not really malicious or anything, they just want to make sure folks don't use them for identity theft.

I understand they might be doing it for their CYA fact. But if they are going to do it, then the consumer should be able to provie who they are and still get approved. From what I read, people are getting denied and then not given a chance to confirm their identity.

Well, that's probably their business policy. Think about it, they probably don't have much support staff to bother calling folks back to verify them, etc. Maybe they can't afford the guys in India to do it for them like Macy's does (argh.....I hate companies who do that by the way..but don't get me started on that. )

I wouldn't stress too much over the FA stuff though. Other pressing things to worry about.

We all know I have no life by credit repair. If I applied and was denied because of a FA, I'd be on the phone trying to get the CEO of BML.

IMO, I would think that if one had to wait for verification, it would defeat the purpose of the Bill Me Later feature, and cause the vendor to loose a sale possibly. I've never used it, but it looks like it is all about convenience - for all those if only I had my credit card handy moments. Plus, do you lose any protections - by not using a CC - if there is a problem with the purchase?

I do agree with Fizzle though, it would be aggravating, but then again I'm not worried about the formatting of my address on my CR. :)++

I still stick by the fact that it is inaccurate information. :) It's the only fish I have left to fry! What else can I do?

Lord knows I would never mess with someone with the potential to conceal-n-carry...(which is why I'd move to the Lone Star state in my elder years...)

Give BML Hell, Fizz. :D Just remember, I wasn't defending them, just attempting to understand their rationale.

Completely understood. I disagree with the system not you. It's not my battle to fight. And I don't even have a BML account. I just personally don't think it's right for them to do that and I think other consumer's who use them, should not put up with it.

I too want to be in your position soon.

The FA held up my JB Robinson (part of the Sterling Trifecta) also. I got an ominous REFUSAL TO GRANT CREDIT letter, but when I called them up they couldn't have been nicer. I am assuming I will get the same $3K I got on Kay and Jared. (Which is really $3K total but don't tell Equifax). So if you get a turndown from any of the Sterling companies - it pays to call them back.
