MillerFam
I recently applied for a couple of cards for the holidays. I applied and received the Hooters card $1000, Kays $2800 and target red card $200. On this splurge I also applied for Juniper/Barclays Sea Miles card. They pulled TU w/a FICO of 620. There response was:Low available credit on existing cardsHigh utilization on another credit cardHigh overall credit card utilizationI sent a reconsideration letter explaining that there is a CC on my CR that is listed that is not mine. It happens to be over the limit. I was an AU on this card. I had the TL removed and sent the info to Juniper for reconsideration. Juniper now pulled my EX report (FICO 599) which I had not had the info removed yet. Now the sent me a second denial letter stating:Proportion of revolving debt to inome is too high.At this point I called them today 12-04-07. I spokw with a CSR and explained to them the situation again. To no avail I was denied now because of no significant credit re-established since BK discharged in 2000. Which is BS. Go figure. The CSR said wait like six months and reapply. Maybe I should not have gone for the Seamiles card.Anyway does anyone here have any similar experiences? Any ideas? Is theresomeone anyone here knows of that is maybe higher up in the Corp. I could write another letter to? Should I just drop it?" Fizzle1979
You can find BK friendly cards. I think Cap One and HSBC are two. I'm sure there are others also. Use the link in my signature for WHO GAVE ME CREDIT to find out which lenders approve people with a BK history.

daveyzzz
I was able to get the Juniper iTunes card with a 605 Fico and previous BK (and open tax lien!) I think it might be just slightly easier to get than the other Juniper cards because of their tie in with Apple. I did have to go through a phone interrogation after I applied. $500 limit - no fee. ctfudge&bankofC-ville
Sometimes my heart actually pounds and my stomach squirms when I hit "apply" and watch the dots rotating by - you know, the "please don't hit your back button, your application is processing" screen. The suspense is just too much for me.I know - I need to get a life.Last night, although it was bitter cold and windy with snow flurries blowing around, I filled up the car with gas even though I already had 1/4 tank and didn't really need to - just because I wanted the thrill of using my Texaco card! And today I bought a wallet-like thing that holds many cards, so I don't have the problem I mentioned before of going through a deck of cards while people think I am crazy. I don't really sock-drawer cards, but I rubber-band infrequently used cards with medical insurance cards and the like, and put them in a separate section of my purse. Now I have the often-used cards in a flip-open holder, so no more crazy deck of cards.

lovebug5
When some people on the forums say "YMMV" (Your Milage May Vary), it is most certainly true. Sometimes relying on the credit databases can be misleading, especially considering the fact that some of the data is pretty old. Regardless of how many years have past since your BK, other factors are going to play into the approval decisions...Post BK, I have obtained the following cards:Credit One Bank, HSBC, Capital One, Hooters, Macy's Store Card, Macy's Visa and the Target Red card.A few months ago, I applied for Barclay's/Juniper and was denied as well. Also denied for a BoA card - but that denial led me to the HSBC card, which was an approval. My repair post-BK has included a large number of deletions, which have contributed to my approvals with the above cards. Don't get discouraged by what other people have gotten and what you've been denied for.
jq26
How do you do it. How do you get these cards with a BK?I received a Juniper Platinum $1000 card in early 2006 with a BK7 from late 2004 (18 months post discharge). The card has a 9.9 fixed apr but no rewards aside from providing me my TU score for free every month. The lack of rewards means it never gets used, but it is another card for the sock drawer. So how is it done? I think it has to do with sufficient credit rebuilding after the BK. By the time I applied, I had a couple of secured installment loans, Target card, an Orchard (HSBC) unsecured card, an American Pacific secured card, a Providian Platinum card, a Chase Circuit City card, a Patelco Credit Union platinum card, an authorized user Citibank card (girlfriend), and a few student loans. All post Bk7 tradelines. This bumped my FICO to roughly 660-680 at the time and Juniper was happy to have me even with a BK7. I applied over the phone. ctfudge&bankofC-ville
The AMEX is not a "real" AMEX, apparently. It's a bank-issued one, and that has kept me out of some perks like using AMEX's credit-monitoring service (much to my chagrin.) I can't remember if I applied for a real AMEX or not, but either I did and got turned down, or I read that I definitely would be turned down for the combo of credit score and BK history. I have put that on my list of things to try for farther down the road because I just don't think it would be happening right now.
pointman
Thanks I will. I am just scared. It's like asking someone to dance for the first time. You don't want to get shut down.Hey - If they say "NO", just tell 'em, "That's cool - I start with the ugly ones then work my way up...." BWAAAAA HAAAA!Good Luck with Juniper. MillerFam
I take this all with a grain of salt. regardless of what Juniper says. They send me a denial letter saying one thing and when I call they tell me it was denied for another reason. Yeah My BK was back in 2000, but I agree, I have not really established since then, well I have had auto loans and such. But until recently have I dared to get back on the horse that got me in this situation in the first place...The CREDIT CARD!My History is not Bad, I think the trouble I am having now is that because I have not re-established, my old Credit historry is falling off my reports. So now it looks like I have no history. I guess that could be bad or good.

lovebug5
Applied last night for the Barclay's/Juniper Barnes and Noble card, thanks to being incredibly jealous of Amerikaner's post about how the card can be used at the Starbucks within the store. I received the "your application is under review" message upon applying, and was told to check the status through their website. I made the decision to call them today to be a good consumer and see if I could assist them by providing information that would be useful with my application review. The CSR informed me that my application was being held due to a security review and asked me if I wanted to perform that via phone. After answering a few questions...APPROVED. $1,800 Limit. No annual fee. APR unknown at this time. This approval should hold me over until March. And I am blaming this approval on Amerikaner's influence.
