Question about the goodwill letter

a goodwill letter does not need your SSN. It does not need to (and IMO Should not) be mailed CMRRR. A goodwill letter SHOULD be addressed to the prez / CEO, or the highest ranking person you can find in a company.

If you like you can post a copy of your GW ahd we can look at it for ya :p

Remember, a GW should be sappy, a pleading to the ego/conscience of the creditor's humanity. Bring in your loyalty to the company and your gratutude the company let you settle the debt/pay it off/whatever.

Dear Capital One,

I am writing to you today regarding my Capital One account which I had while I was a student at ______. The purpose of my correspondence is to see if you would be willing to make a "goodwill" adjustment on the reporting of this account to the three credit agencies.

During the time period this account was established I had was very happy with the service, I was however not the ideal customer and made mistakes with my handling of the account. I should have kept better records regarding the account and I take full responsibility. I became aware of the unpaid balance when I got a copy of my credit report in May of 2007.

I know that payment was my responsibility and I am not attempting to justify this breach of Capital One’s user agreement, I was however hoping you might review the circumstances under which this non-payment occurred and consider removing the negative trade line associated with this account from my three credit reports.

As soon as I became aware of the balance I contacted the lawyer associated with the account and paid the balance in full. I provide this not to justify why the account was unpaid, but rather to show that the issue with Capital One is not a good indicator of my actual credit worthiness. I hope that Capital One is willing to work with me on erasing this mark from my credit reports.

I would like to STRESS that the information currently being reported IS accurate, (I am not disputing anything with Capital One). I am simply asking Capital One for a courtesy gesture of goodwill in having the credit bureaus remove this account from my report. I do recognize that this request is unique and that it may not be Capital One’s normal policy. Please consider that the Fair Credit Reporting Act does not demand that all accounts be reported, only that any account that is reported be reported accurately. Therefore, a company does have legal discretion and permission to remove any account it chooses from the credit report. I'm hoping that Capital One will do that in my case for this account.

Your kind consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

umm i just copied and pasted.....

 I HATE it when they start like that!

You need to get creative. Personalize the letter (aside from putting Crap1 where the blank is). You've got to make it sound human, not form-letter. It's got to flow like you talk - got to have your style.

These form letters are a template - they've been around forever and in their current form are useless. For obvious reasons, we can't really post updated GW letters (or any other form letters for that matter), because originality and creativity are key to a successful letter.

see what I mean?

Dear Rich Fairbank, Chairman and CEO of Capital One,

I am writing to you today in regards to my Capital One account which I had from 11/2003 until 05/2005. The purpose of my letter is to see if you would be willing to make a "goodwill" adjustment on the reporting of this account to the three credit bureaus.

I’m young, and Capital One was my first credit card. I was very happy with the service, however, I was not the ideal customer. I’ll admit I made some mistakes in the handling and budgeting of my account. I should have kept better records regarding the account and I take full responsibility. The reason for my delinquency is that I have suffered severe medical problems that began in 2004. I have been hospitalized numerous times and been treated for various illnesses, all which have made me disabled to this day and unable to hold a full time job.

I was aware of the unpaid balance when I recieved a copy of my credit report in May of 2007, I had some extra money and called to pay Capital One. I paid in hopes to clean up my credit report. The collectors on the phone told me if I paid, they would delete this from my report. I feel cheated now that they haven’t come through on their promises and I paid. All in all, after there misleading promise, my credit report has not improved because of paying Capital One. I would have been better off to save my money and not pay. But I did pay, and I’m hoping you will take this as a sign of good faith.

I know that payment was my responsibility and I am not attempting to justify this breach of Capital One’s user agreement, I was however hoping you might review the circumstances under which this non-payment occurred and consider removing the negative trade line associated with my account from my three credit reports.

I send this letter not to justify why the account was unpaid, but rather to show that the issue with Capital One is not a good indicator of my true credit worthiness. I hope that Capital One is willing to work with me on erasing this mark from my short credit history and give a young adult the ability to have a chance for a sound financial future.

I would like to STRESS that the information currently being reported IS accurate, (I am not disputing anything with Capital One). I am simply asking Capital One for a courtesy gesture of goodwill and good faith in having the credit bureaus remove this account from my report. I do recognize that this request is unique and that it may not be Capital One’s normal policy. I have done all my homework on credit, please consider that the Fair Credit Reporting Act does not demand that all accounts be reported, only that any account that is reported be reported accurately. Therefore, a company does have the legal permission to remove any account it chooses to from my credit report. I'm hoping that Capital One will do that in my case for this account.

Your kind consideration in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Good, but too long. Shorten ut, simply say you fell behind becasue of an illness that kept you form working but that you have paid it as promised and the mark is blemishing anotherwise responsible letter.

.

Does Fairbanks have a pet charity? Send them $10 in his name and include a copy of the transmittal and check in your letter. It does work sometimes, but Capital One usually tells you to pound salt

I may be way off but, you said the account dates back to 2005 and you called Capital One around May 07. Typically, thats past charge off and the account is assigned to a CA. Additionally, an OC like Capital One saying they would PFD is not likely. So, di you pay a CA? If so, then I doubt Capital One is going to help you. Like I said, I may be way off but something about this doesn't sound right.

cap one is just one othem. i just wann acry. i spent over 2000.00 paying the charge offs and due balances trying to fix my report... back in may before i knew any better. i thought if i paid they would go away as the people on the phone said.:cry::cry::cry::twisted:

You said that you were talking back and forth between both companies, but who did you pay? From what happened, it sounds like a CA. If Capital One charged the account off, it's doubtful that they will remove the negative listing.

Did you dispute with the CRA's?

And the OC does not have to honor what the Lawyer said.

Your basically in the position of trying to sweet talk the OC into doing a PFD. Normally they will not do that but does not hurt to try. Go back and do a variation of your first posted "copy" GW letter laying on the sweetness.
