Hello, My name is Dria and I am in the process of repairing my credit. I have 5 medical collection accounts that read as follows.

Central Fincl Control- $798.00

Central Fincl Control- $100.00

Date Opened: 01/17/2007

Dated Reported: 09/15/2007

Central Fincl Control- $289.00

Central Fincl Control-$330.00

Date Opened-11/08/2005

Central Fincl Control-$ 95.00

Date Opened- 04/21/2005

OSI Collection Service-$282.00

Date Opened-06-16-2007

Now, the question is what is the best way to settle these accounts, I am in the process of disputing again for a second round...These accounts came back verified, so I think it is time to dispute again with the CB, and then send out DV letters. If they can prove the debt I want to settle, what is the best way to settle these medical collections? Should I offer %60 or %30?

Medical collections are typically assigned to a CA to collect for the OC. And they can be the easiest to get rid of.

Have you tried calling the OC first? IMO, I would start there. MDs and Hospitals just want to get paid, they can be easier to work with- even if your offering a settlement or a portion of what you owe. Tell them you can give them 30%, when they say they want more- then agree to something you can work with, and ask for deletion of TL upon payment- in writing.

When I had medical collections, I had no problems getting the Hospital and physicians to delete TLs upon completion of payment- but I paid the entire amount because I'm a RN and I wanted to make sure I paid them everything I owed. I personally believe in paying medical bills- because I've never been "screwed by one". Evil creditors are a different story

good luck :)

Hey Dria...

Keep in mind that your DV letters are untimely, therefore the CA's don't have to do diddly squat. They don't have to validate the debt, nor are they required to respond to your letter at all...BUT.

If the CA's are the only furnishers of information to your credit reports, as they must be due to the nature of the accounts being medical, you are afforded the rights under Section 623 of the FCRA which states that you have the right to request an investigation with the original data furnisher. Under this section of the FCRA, if you request an investigation with the original data furnisher and provide them with ample reason to investigate the account, they are required by law to respond to your request within 30-days of receipt.

So if what you're looking for is documentation, specifically bills and the like, an investigation can get you that information...Depending on what your reason for the investigation is. If you dispute with the CRA's first and then send out your investigation request, and the account comes back as verified but the CA doesn't respond to your letter or can't provide you with any solid information...Well, they're in violation.

Just my opinion. However, if you're going for a settlement in order to take care of these bills, only offer a settlement for a PFD. ;)
