enamel
Hi everyone,I seem to be in a little tough situation. My father died approximately 7 months ago. He owned a house (in tenancy in common) with my mother. (Thus, he only owned half of house). My parents planned their estate really, really poorly. To make a long story short, when my father died, he made me his executor. Also, he had 4 unpaid credit card debts, with a grand total (cumulative) of $40,000.00.(One of them is $30000.00, and the other 3 are each approximately $3000.00 to $4000.00). Our family really doesn't have any money, aside from this house. I distrubuted the estate after probate was granted. The house is now in my mother's name completely. I have not paid any of the credit card debts. I have no money and I am just a poor university student who is unemployed and is in his early 20s. I just receieved a letter from one of the credit card companies that wants their 30000.00. What should I do?I would really appreciate any helpful comments. Thanks a lot! brokeinok
I'm bumping this for, hoping one of the moderators will move your post to the lawyer forum where someone with more knowledge than I have will help you.Just my opinion, but I think that you simply write the creditor back saying the estate was minimal with no money remaining to pay unsecured debt. But, please wait to see if someone else with more info answers your post, since I'm really just not sure.
Amerikaner83
OP posted another thread in that Legal forum - exactly the same. OP already took care of it.
