Hi all,

I am just getting into the rat race of fixing my credit. I am trying to buy a house and have afew questions. Here goes...

1. I was an "authorized user" on my dad's credit cards. He has now passed. Now these credit card debts are showing up on my credit as bad debt. am I now responsible for paying these credit cards?

2. In my divorce settlement, certain debts were to be paid by my ex- husband, he has now filed bankruptcy and it is showing on credit. Again am I now responsble for these and why is the bankruptcy showing on my creidt report?

You are not responsible for you fathers debt even though you are an authorized used. You should be able to get that negative item off.

Now question two. It does not matter that your judge said your ex husband should pay the debt. You are still responsible for this debt as well. He filed BK and was discharged, you do still owe the debt.

Welcome!

Technically, an AU is NOT responsible for paying the CCs. This may be difficult to clear up because, obviously, CCs tend to think that AU means "joint".

And...the reason that your Ex's BK is showing up on your reports is that some of those debts may actually have been joint. The creditors don't really care what your divorce decree said.

So...if you've got money to work with, you might want to see if there is a www.naca.net lawyer in your area that will help you sort it out. The reason I suggest a lawyer is that none of these things are going away easily. You may actually have to take them to court to get it sorted out...
