1st Notice Of Collection

Before I get flamed I have been searching this site for answers before I decided to post a thread. I didn't find any one with the exact same situation. Ones I found with similar situations were all OLD accounts.

Just yesterday I received a collection notice from Credit Protection a$$. for an old Comcast Account. This is the first collection I have received. As far as I know this isn't on my credit report yet. Should I negotiate with Comcast and pay it off before they report it to my credit and than tell the CA that its already paid? Should I try to negotiate with both ? The reason I'm confused is this isn't on my Credit Reports yet ( As far as I know, I got my reports from Experian 3-1 ) and it just started. What do you guys think my plan of action should be ? Hopefully I can take care of this now so it never appears on my Credit Reports !

How old is this collection? If it has been sold calling Comcast would do no good. You would be better off starting with a DV. If this debt still belongs to Comcast I would definitely try to negotiate to pay and for them to report "paid as agreed" When did you stop paying on this account?

You actually would not be negotiating a PFD since there is no Collection TL to delete.

If you can't get the OC to PULL the account... oh and beware.. they may take your money and pay the CA..

so paying the OC isn't always the best thing to do.

What you need from the CA is a letter from them stating that this account is not being reported to any CRA and will not be reported to any CRA if the account is paid by x day.

if they agree to send (or fax) that letter then go ahead a pay it.

(only pay after you receive the letter or fax)

Only DV if they don't agree to your terms...

if they don't agree to the letter but give you an oral agreement, say that is unacceptable and tell them you will be sending them a DV letter.

(Include in your DV letter that all calls from you and to you are recorded.)

See Recorded Calls Info-Click

That was easy. :-)

DV CPA now. Go down to your local Comcast office and pay now, in cash.

Protecting your stock?

I would also pay a utility company any past due balance. Those things come back to haunt you.

A friend had a collection with Comcast and couldn't get cable hookup in a different state with a different provider because of it.
