Old Sprint showing up again

I have what I think is an oldddddddd Sprint cell debt that is showing up on my TU and EX reports. I know I haven't had a Sprint phone in about 7 years..maybe more than that, so I would have thought that would have dropped off..and I believe it may have....but it's showing up on my CR as having been opened in 2005 (TU lists it as 7/3/05, but lists it "closed 9/05"????); EX shows it being opened 7/1/05), ....I know for a fact that I've only had AT &T/Cingular since 1/03. Could this be my old Sprint bill re-aging from being sent to a collection agency? (Debt Recovery Solutions).

On TU, it says it will fall off 12/09; EX says the terms are "1 month?", but doesn't give a drop off date.

I'm really confused....should I DV/dispute it and risk it really re-aging if it is the old Sprint debt...or just ride out the next 2 years and let it fall off on its own?

The only date that actually matters is the date of first deliquency.

Sounds like the Equifax has it right; the onther one may as well.

In any event, so long as you can prove the DOFD you should be able to prevail with the bureaus.

It's not showing on Equifax at all...EX in this instance is Experian...so, are you saying that both TransUnion and Experian are both right? Or should I try to DV it with Sprint (the original creditor) directly?

I'd dispute ownership of this account with the bureaus, since there's no proof the collection company has any right to collect on this debt. You could also silmutaneously request validation directly with the collection company. Also, they cannot "legally" re-age this account just because you disputed it.

Sorry, misunderstood your post.

However, the DOFD is the only date that matters when it comes to how long it can show up on your bureau reports (depending on how far you have to carry the issue, you will need to be able to show some evidence of what that data is).

I would follow the procedures outlined on this board of disputing with the bureaus and requesting validation from the reporter(s).

You can dispute for whatever reasons you feel comfortable with, however, I do not advise disputing a debt as "not mine" unless it really isn't your debt and especially so when you have other reasons (such as errors in what's being reported) to base your disputes on.
