ceowens
So, my family has decided that next year we are going to pull a "Christmas with the Cranks" and go on vacation instead of "doing Christmas". I'm thinking cruise...but DH just wants to jet off to some all inclusive and stay there for a week. I'd love to hear your ideas.....here are the "rules"...First of all, it has to be the week between Christmas and New years. We're thinking to be gone Christmas Day to new Years Day.Next, we have 4 children. There ages will be (m) 16, (f) 13, (f) 8, (m) 7It has to be a WARM destination. Anyone who suggests skiing or anything having to do with snow will be shot. I'm thinking crystal clear water.....snorkeling......drinking ....gambling......and someone else to entertain the kids when Ive had enough of them. We're been to the Bahamas twice......so that's out. I'm thinking further south anyway.Ideas????

nimrod
Nope - never traveled this time of year. Some areas of Cancun have nekkid women on the beach. That would sure keep the husband occupied while you went shopping.

I saw lots of pasty European women with their families - well, they were just topless - not nekkid.Kinda creeped me out - but we just don't do that here in OK. J_Snow
J...What's Hawaii like that time of year????A very long plane ride away (10+ hours) and full of people.I really think taking a cruise your best bet. Do the Caribbean. Everyone will get what they want-its tough with the age differences in the kids-but they have activities going all day long for both age groups (oh and hubby too) so they will be out of your hair all day...You get to plan spa treatments, etc. They are old enough to not need a babysitter so you are good to go in the evenings!Get an inside cabin for the kids and an outside balcony for you two! Good to go!

Vegas is NOT a kids destination. Don't take them. They will be BORED. Vegas is an ADULTS ONLY playground again. Trust me on this...
zfire
But...it is NOT warm. We've been numerous times, and actually did Christmas there in 99. Was lovely. Hotel even gave gifts to everyone.I would vote for Vegas but..........Question...there really isn't anywhere for kids in Vegas now?I thought they had lots of places geared for the small fry. Whendid that change?

Whendid that change?DH and I just did Vegas a few weeks ago. In my opinion, I saw NOTHING for kids. We saw people there with kids, but I can't imagine what they were doing??????? And besides, it was cold! I'm looking for warm...and beachy....and way south of here.

c m chase
I'd HATE a cruise, personally. I want to go somewhere and sit on a beach for 5 days....not get on a boat, get off a boat, get on a boat, get off a boat. We're doing Dominican Republic on our one-year anniversary. It looks mighty nice!!
chelseagirl
I have the PERFECT place!!!! Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. BEAUTIFUL!!! There are alot of "all inclusives" which include lots of activities for kids! Not really costly and not a long plane ride!
c m chase
That's where we're going!!! This is the resort we got. Woot!
stefdr
Maldives. Planning a trip there at some point. Heard good things from a few friends who have been there.
WickeDay
I would say the Yucatan pyramids in Mexico, Costa Rica or Brazil.
chucksnee
What are you willing to spend? Phuket Thailand, was 81 degree's today. You can get a 5 star hotel there for around $150 a night. Not to mention the shopping you can do there.
stefdr
Been thinking of taking an R&R in Thailand; many of the people I work with have gone there several times. I don't know if my heart could take it. Always had a weakness for Asian women.
WickeDay
Try the Japanese underwater pyramids.
chelseagirl
If you don't want to spend alot of money....Costa Rico would be great too. I don't think you need a passport for there. That would save money right there! Also...not a long plane ride for the kids! BUT, my favorite place....Punta Cana.
2001Badyear
I agree with Phuket. Have not been there in years and actually lived in Laos many moons ago (just across the river from Thailand). Some of the better diving on the planet. After the tsunami there are very good deals to be had there and they really need the money to help recover.Chelseagirl,Yes you will need a passport for Costa and nearly everywhere else anymore. Costa has gotten pretty commercial and the east coast is rough(dangerous). Panama is really nice, less expensive than Costa and not nearly as commercial in the northern areas. Panama City is a waste unless you like big city life. The Chiriqui region (fly into David) is like Costa was 20 years ago. Otherwise, Grindelwald or Kitzbuhel if you ski. Favorite Europe ski destinations, but not been in a few years due to lower dollar. If that's too cold for you try Sharm El Sheikh for best diving on the planet, although a rough area these days.
