Since your husband was only an authorized user on the account, unfortunately he wouldn't be able to re-open the account as he wasn't the primary cardholder and not legally responsible for the account. He would have to apply for his own as the primary.

And, most of the time, creditors won't allow a prior consumer to re-open accounts. It has happened, but for the most part, they will juat tell you to re-apply.
