Goodwill letter - how to use?

Can the goodwill form letter be used to request that a creditor update a report to show no late occurrences rather than delete an account from a report?

I know that the last paragraph cites the the Fair Credit Reporting Act, but I was hoping to send at same time that reports are being disputed. Who knows? Maybe they'll get hung up in red tape for over 30 days.

I have two accounts from 1991 and 2001 that I do not want deleted because of the age, but could really benefit from them not showing lates.

Any thoughts?

I would say give it a try, adapting the form letter to basically state that you do not want to lose the "prestige of the TL" on your report but that you honestly don't remember any late payments. Just ask them to investigate this for you, no law quoting or anything.

Let us know if it works out!

I would give it a shot.

I tried this with one of my old Capital One accts and it worked.

You could also just dispute the late payments on your CRs.

I know some companies only keep those records for a couple of years and will not be able to verify the late payments so they will disappear( I did this with a Walmart acct)

If the lates are older than 2 years they probably aren't affecting your scores and it might be easier to let them be rather than risk losing them. JMHO

Thanks, Moriah. They are not old. Mostly within the last year, when had financial struggles. Have since paid off a lot of debt, sold house and reduced debt-to-income. Just looking for some quick hits.
