metcalf34
I just canceled Orchard. I had to talk with two people before they would cancel. They offered me 100 credit line increase to stay but would not waive my annual fee.So I said goodbye and cut it up. I will say it help me start my credit rebuilding process.
jq26
Great job. Use the card for what it is worth and move on. No one should charge you an annual fee to collect merchant fees and whatever interest charges they can throw at you.
whocares
They gave me the song and dance before cancelling after 3 calls, then another month to get my deposit back...Good Luck
metcalf34
I hated to close it because it was my oldest account. Maybe it will not hurt.
Longshot
Congrats. I just closed my account with them as well. I've had the Orchard card for 3 years. The whole time i've had a stupid $300 limit. They have never given me an increase. Now they want to charge me an annual fee. Plus my apr was like 24%. Forget it. I've never been late with them, my credit is great now. But they don't want to do anything for me, then I don't need them ++
Krash
I will say, i got a orchard plat card with pay pass, and it is nice. it has a lower apr by 4 points on my best buy mascter card, and they are through the same people! Weird I know but they gave me 200 bucks and another 100 to stay with em, so they gave me 100 on the best buy mastercard and 200 on my orchard lol..... I like my orchard card, good luck.. try citi, i have one card a plat select and it is 0 interest on bt's and any other purchase for 1 year! and i am sure it is either the 9.24 or the 12.24 because the higher apr doesn't do the 12 months they do 6, I am happy about that plus a 3200 limit and my other card i have with em is 6000 and 6 months 0 interest on bt's only and 15.24 varible, weird how it went down that much but no af's on either one! plus i get 5% cash back when i fuel at shell! baglady215
They REFUSE to convert me to unsecured after almost 3 years. I will be paying it off and closing next month. Yay!
whocares
Yep after 4 years of perfect payments and less than 20% utilization most of the time, they would not unsecure me either, BUT HSBC gave me a card with a 500.00 limit and raised the limit to 800.00 in less than 3 months...I dumped orchard before my annual fee was due too...So I have much better cards now, it was great for rebuilding but that was it. ctfudge&bankofC-ville
Been there, done that. Closed three Orchard/Household cards. THey were good when I had no other cards, but they are inflexible and force you to cut ties with them (unless you want to be a sucker forever.) I think they have no trouble finding more suckers to replace us with. If that's the way they want to run their business, that's what they'll get - accounts opened and closed when they're no longer favorable for the consumer. shortyroc
I had an issue with Orchard as well. I had their card for 4 years and the CL was $500. I originally started with $200 and requested increases twice @ a $10 charge. Finally I called to cancel and they gave me a $100 increase (to make it $500). Over the last 2 years I have waited to see what they would do and nada. No CLI. I called to cancel and they didnt do anything either. I cancelled it last week and the only offer they made was to change the card type. I would still be stuck with their annual fee for a crappy card. All my other cards are $5k CLI or higher. Bye Bye Orchard!
dazedandconfusedincali
I also have the 300 limit card with the $39 annual fee. But after 6 mos. They offered me the platinum card 2% cash back no annual fee and 14.9% interest with $1500 limit. I asked her if this was HSBC and she said no that I only Quialified for their "Bad Credit" card for rebuilding credit. Maybe this is why we can't get higher limits on these types of cards? It is helping me establish credit. So I assume I would need to get other cards later.
Krash
i have a plat, with 2 percent cash back, and a 39.00 af, with a 300 CL just upped to 500, I don't know what to say about hsbc, different people have different effects out of them

I also have the the basic 300.00 limit card, and the platinum no fee 1500 limit and 2% cash back.
Krash
the only difference is the limit right?
dazedandconfusedincali
Btwn mine and yours is the limit, yes. But the Orchard Card they advertise up on the top of this website is a whole other card. I think that is the one everyone tries to get better limits and it is very hard to get one. A platinum card will keep giving you increases as your credit improves.
Krash
well that is neat, i like mine for the fact of the 4 points less on apr and the pay pass, wonder if hsbc will give my 850 card to my 500 card and do away with the 850 card? Like give me the full 850 CL over to my 500 orchard and close out my best buy mastercard
dazedandconfusedincali
Those are 2 whole different cards. My daughter has had them for years and the limits on both went up to $5200.00 from the original $850.00. She has had both of them since 04. whocares
Orchard says they do not convert cards? I asked to have my Orchard and HSBC combined...they said NO....I asked to have my account transferred tp HSBC and they said NO...the only way to get another HSBC card is to apply to HSBC after closing Orchard... dazedandconfusedincali
HSBC will not give me a credit card either. They told me I only qualified for the Orchard card which is for Bad credit and Rebuilding your credit. They are 2 separate credit cards. But the next thing you know they offered the Platinum which is great.
