Finally, got someplace with AFNI

I have been arguing with AFNI over a $492 bill that is NOT mine since July. I have never had an account w/ this purported OC, and the OC has told me in two phone calls and in writing that they never had an account in my name and have no record of assigning this debt to AFNI, ever.

I went back and forth with AFNI through the BBB of IL for about two months and they kept saying they'd "validated." Their validation was a piece of paper on their letterhead stating the amount "due."

I sent the complaint and copies of all BBB correspondence from aFNI to the IL AG and Afni responded with the same crap -- they've validated, etc.

Tonight, I got a call from the OC stating that they had received a copy of my complaint from the IL AG, and that they have sent AFNI a cease and desist letter on my behalf, instructing them to delete the account from the CRAs and stop collecting/reporting permanently. They've sent me a copy of the letter too and I should be receiving it in a few days.

I'd rather not say who the OC is until I know for sure this is taken care of. But, sounds like good news!

yeah, I just checked the status of my BBB complaint online and it appears that AFNI replied that all the info was correct and that they had indeed sent me the information supplied by the OC as well. (This was a form letter, with AFNI letter head and the information hand written in on it...no documents from OC, etc). I can't wait to respond to it, I am going to write a letter of dispute to the OC today.

Thats great news. AFNI can be very hard to get off your case. I currently have them after me as well. when you get it all staightened out, let us know who the OC was. Maybe you can help a few of us out

I thought I would let you know the resolution of all this. The OC was Dish Network. After receiving the phone call from them telling me they had told AFNI to delete and stop bothering me, I got an official letter from EchoStar (dba Dish Network)'s consumer protection division summarizing what they had done and stating clearly I don't have an account and never have had an account with them. Thus, if AFNI doesn't stop reporting, I will be taking this document to court!!

So, if you're having trouble with a CA over Dish Network, go back to Dish Network. They are very responsive.
