hasnanajmal
Is it better to repair your own credit like you guys do on the site or better to pay someone to do it? I'm hearing mixed reviews about this. I heard its better to do it yourself since you can keep track of eevrything and know wxactly what youre doing than to pay someone who you forward everything to and they get rid of the headache. Please advise. Thanks
jetscarbie
It's better to fix your own. Read and learn! Then you will be smart about your own credit repair.Save your money those other places charge you. They don't get rid of the headache. .
vickinicole
it is almost certainly better to do it yourself for several reasonsBUTif the choice is betweenNOT DOING IT AT ALL because you don't have the time, ability, comprehension, psychiatric anxiety from dealing with it, etc... THEN I would think it's better to DO SOMETHING such as a credit repair agency than DO NOTHINGI also think even if you do use a credit repair agency you should educate yourself as much you can so that you can check up on and verify the credit repair agency is doing things correctly every once in a while
lovebug5
I disagree with the above. If I had a choice between paying a credit repair firm/company/agency my hard-earned money to send out 1-2 letters per month on my behalf and doing not a d@mn thing, I would choose to not do a d@mn thing. Especially knowing what I know now. These companies/agencies/firms charge you a relatively high monthly fee and you know what they do? They take form letters, plug in your information and mail those letters to the CRA's using your name and your signature. They don't send these letters out on company letterhead, nor do they have anyone "working" for you. It appears as though you've sent the letters to the CRA's yourself...Which is why the CRA's send the dispute results to you and you, in turn, send those results with a new copy of your CR back to the agency/company/firm. So basically, you're paying them a hefty monthly fee to file written disputes with the CRA's. Not worthwhile in my opinion. And if someone is in a predicament where they've defaulted on their bills and can't take financial responsibility for what has already been done, they might as well pay some of us here their hard-earned cash to actually do something for them... jetscarbie
I think "doing nothing" is better than using a credit repair agency.Yes, it takes some time to repair your credit but it is so worth it. I started 6 mths ago and had terrible credit. Bankrupt worthy credit.I just bought a house in October. That was b/c I read up and learned. I followed steps and asked people's advice on here. I reshearched companies that were on my credit report to figure out the best way to get rid of them. I wouldn't be able to count all the post on here that people have started b/c some credit repair agency screwed their credit up so bad. A lot of people have even had to file bankrupt after using them.To the OP: Take the time to do it yourself.
jasen
Not only can you do it all yourself, sometimes these agencies will end up ruining your credit for you. They'll call your creditors and make it sound like you're about to BK and negotiate to pay less than full balance. Then you get a tradeline marked as "settled for less than full". Not that they'll necessarily tell you this. They'll keep the difference. And then they'll "forget" to make a payment or two.Quite the racket.

Nobody knows your credit like you do.Start by reading and learning this thread.http://debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276514Then start on the other stickies at the top of each forum. 2001Badyear
Vicki,I'm quite certain that it would not be legal for anyone on this board to do so for you at a fee. As far as the "Repair" outfits, keep in mind that since most if not all charge a monthly fee, there is no real incentive for them to expedite the process. You would do well to simply read through these forums and learn for a week or so. You'll quickly appreciate that it's simple enough that anyone can follow the steps found here. If you're serious that you want to do this, than nobody will be a better advocate for you than you.
