Impact on Credit Score Question

A CA showed up on mom's credit report in 10/07 for a medical debt mom believed was paid. The credit report reflected $240 past due, with remarks "Not reported Seriously past due date / assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department". Credit score was 674.

Today's credit report reflects $0 past due, with remarks "Not reported Paid, was a collection account, insurance claim or government claim or was terminated for default". Credit score is 716.

The jump between 674 and 716 seems signficant for a $240 debt. Does the change in remarks impact the credit score? Or would this jump have been simply because it was paid?

Do you think the CA would remove the TL, since it's paid, if we provided documentation showing why mom thought the medical bill had already been paid (which included a refund check to mom from the medical folks)? As it turned out, due from confusion with a refund check to mom, she did owe the $240 but she thought it was paid at the time. I ended up paying the $240 direct to the OC medical folks requesting they withdraw the account from the CA due to the confusion with the refund check. They cashed the check but didn't respond to my letter so checked today's credit report to see if the CA TL had changed and how.

Thanks.

It sounds like they accurately re-reported the account as paid, which is what you said you did.

They have no obligation to remove this TR from the report and it can potential stay on for 7 years.

Might try a "love Letter" to highest person up the chain at OC explaining situation and see if they will withdraw from CA and remove from report. Don't bother with CA as they have nothing to gain at this point.
