pescador
I have a credit card debt. But I checked my CR, none of the 3 bureaus listed the original creditor nor the collection agency. Is this a normal thing to happen? Does it really exist?

pescador
The CA is Mountain States something. I haven't even received any letter from them. Yet they've already called my relatives and my work. The OC was CitiBank. They claim to have the right person. I do remember having an account with CitiBank but not for the 7K they're demanding for....

willingtocope
This is the classic collection agency routine. They call and demand money...knowing that most people do indeed have "credit card debt" and many of them can get paniced into just giving them their checking account number over the phone.First...stop talking to them on the phone. If you do happen to pick up the phone and its them, say..."Send me somethiing in writing"...and hang up. Period.Once you get something in writing from them, use the "debt validation" (DV) process. You can read the details on the board here.(Its entirely possible that this is a very old debt. Junk debt buyers (JDBs) buy lists of people who's debts are past the statue of limitations (SOL) for their state, and turn them over to a CA to work the phones. Its possible they have no proof they're even calling the right person.)

Do you have some cancelled checks?A $7K cc debt is probably not going to go away (could but I'd say doubtful) so I suggest you get this CA's address and start the DV provess - you need information.
