turk7
I just applied for and was approved for these accounts. Just curious if the credit limits that they app\roved me for count toward utilization in the FICO model or are these considered a different type of account than a standard credit card.Thanks. Optimized
Congrats! I just made my initial purchase on my CJ Acct and hope to see it report next month. I believe both account CL's will be included in your utilization calculation from what I've read on these boards
ctfudge&bankofC-ville
It definitely counts toward utilization! I saw my U. drop like a stone, and my score go up like a rocket (OK, it went up ten points, but I'll take that!)
Optimized
Turk, if I may ask ... what was your score when you were approved for Kay?I got denied, will probably wait for CJ to kick in for a few months and possibly clean up another baddie or two before trying again. turk7
Kay approved me for 3000. Scores were:TU:629EQ:633EX:663These are true FICOs as I pulled them yesterday before doing a little application spree. By the way...if you're on myfico use the code MW01 and you'll get a 25% discount!Hope that helps. Good luck!

turk7
Well...Don't know if I went a little overboard or not...but applied for like 10 new accounts. I tried, and seemed to be successful in making sure the inquiries would split between the CRAs. Still waiting on my 7-10 days for a number of the accounts but have been approved at Kay, Crown, Hooters, and for a Target Redcard. Also applied for at Walmart, for 2 gas cards and 3-4 retail store accounts. Wanted to split the types of accounts....we'll see what happens. I got Crown, but never got up the gumption to buy some cheap jewelry, so I expect they've cut me off.
turk7
Ditto with me and crown....I got approved but the stuff looks like junk...I guess I'd rather take an inquiry and be approved for KAy because they will report (they have started reporting) regardless of whether you make a purchase or not

Crown sent me e-mails around Valentine's so I guess I'm not entirely cut off. I still don't want to buy their jewelry, though. I have my eye on a ruby cocktail type ring at Jared's. I probably should buy it sooner or later, maybe in May. Right now I'm very focused on saving $$, but I don't want Kay and Jared to close me out because of no use. turk7
Don't know about Jarrod...but I think Kay works a little more like a regular retail account.....they did a hard pull..sent me a card, and started reporting to the bureaus within a month.Crown strikes me as more a of an arrangement.... where they will give you a TL with a relatively high limit as long as you buy some of their junk from time to time. omega 3
Hello,I applied for Kay's on Saturday and was declined. My scores are:650, 620, 616I read on here about someone who had scores in the 500's and was approved and I took a chance and was declined. So I will have to delete the inquiry off my report. ctfudge&bankofC-ville
re: the constant denouncement of Crown's offerings being "junk"I find it amusing that, considering the financial/credit problems that are pretty much a prerequisite for being here, so many have such discriminating taste in fine jewelry. Maybe I'd be more impressed with Crown if I went into the store and looked at the stuff in real life. The pictures on line don't look that good to me. The stuff in Jared's looks like better quality, but like I said I've seen it in person (and under those lovely jewelry store lights ).
Stylingal
No I don't think you'd be too impressed if you saw the CJ stuff in person lol. CJ is strictly for adding a pos+ TL of $1500 to your report. In return you buy a little piece of junky jewelry every 6 months of acct inactivity. So try to buy something for $60-$80 (ideal), pay it off in 3-4 mths, and then 6 mths later do the same. You'll get a "pd as agreed" TL reporting to the cra.Kays, Jared etc close accts after 24 mths of inactivity, so you only have to purchase once every 2 yrs. turk7
It really doesn't have much to do with being a connesuer (sp I know) of fine jewelry while being a deadbeat at the same time ...lolIt's just that I really think that crown is in the game of credit repair as much as it is a jeweler. They charge too much for the quality of what they are selling. Kay seems a little nicer. We're not talking Tiffanys or Van Clef Arpels but if I were to be buying things there I probably wouldn't spend so much time on this board...lol
