NASCAR_Devil
Just received a dunning notice from North Shore agency for BMG Music that stated that "your delinquent account has been reported by them to The Credit Index, a consumer reporting agency." I did a web search for "The Credit Index" and got nothing of real value. Anybody have any idea who that is? Of course I will DV the CA but will call the OC and have them pull this back. Must have overlooked this one.

hiblues
As long as they don't report it to EX, EQ or TU , you are good
insomniac
Just received a dunning notice from North Shore agency for BMG Music that stated that "your delinquent account has been reported by them to The Credit Index, a consumer reporting agency." I did a web search for "The Credit Index" and got nothing of real value. Anybody have any idea who that is? Of course I will DV the CA but will call the OC and have them pull this back. Must have overlooked this one.I dealt with The Credit Index (TCI) a couple years ago regarding the alleged reporting of a Columbia House Music Club debt. (The Columbia House Music Club was purchased by BMG, which then shut it down in favor of their own club, so the OC doesn't really exist anymore. Somebody purchased all the old accounts and is trying to collect. This is all separate from the Columbia House DVD Club, which is still operating.)Sometime in 2006, I received a letter from a CA (can't remember who) which said they were reporting to The Credit Index. TCI appeared to be a company that kept a database of "deadbeats" who didn't pay their accounts with direct marketing companies like BMG, Columbia House and Fingerhut. I got a hold of an email address for TCI and sent them an email citing FCRA and my right to receive a report from them. They replied asking for my address, which I provided, but I never received a report. There used to be an active Web site for TCI at www.tcindex.com, but it appears they were purchased by xTech, LLC. (press release) Now, both the former TCI site and www.xtechllc.com redirect to something called eBureau.Basically, I consider The Credit Index and its various successors to be yet another one of these specialized "fake CRAs" that nobody should care about. insomniac
Here's BMG's response...kinda ambiguousI guess if you want the warm fuzzy from paying them, you can write a check directly to BMG, then. If the CA is never going to report anywhere except The Credit Index, I would not worry about it at all. I'm opting to let my Columbia House debt (all of $40) die a slow death, as the SOL will be up soon anyway and I have other creditors more worthy of my money.
