kleep
I owe on a couple CC that I couldn't pay last year when I was unemployed. When I finally got on my feet this year, they wouldn't talk to me. Some had turned over to CAs that have now either retracted or gone again. The amounts are still listed on my CR as being with the OC. Again, I call and am told the debt is gone to companyX. I would like to pay these off (as they're only about $500 each) but don't know how to do this and not wreck my credit even more.Do I send a written offer to the OC? If so, do I offer the whole amount or part? Do I request PFD and settle for Paid as Agreed or will they do any of this?Do I attempt to contact companyX at all? txtrouble
Kleep, from my personal experience, once a CC sends it to a CA, they won't talk to you anymore. They make you go through the CA. That's not to say you shouldn't try. I had one card that went to a CA and am still dealing with it, the OC still owns it, but they refuse to deal with me. Its frustrating. You'll find many differing opinions, some will never deal with a CA. I'm kind of in that boat, I don't want to, but not sure if my hand will be forced to at some point. I've seen other advice on here where they suggest telling the OC that its your personal policy to not deal with a CA and if they want to work something out, they (the OC), needs to talk to you.I think the key is you can call the OC to see if they'll talk to you. If so great. But whatever you do, do not call the CA. If you communicate with the CA, only do it in writing. Are the CA's currently contacting you? Are they calling or sending you any letters? IMO, I wouldn't pay without a PFD. Being within the SOL and fairly recent, you may have to pay full amount for a PFD. I don't really have experience in this area, so I'm sure more experienced and knowledgeable folks here will chime in. But whatever you do, don't call a CA on the phone. Also, if a CA has contacted you, did you reply with a DV? If so, did they respond to that?
brokeinok
The key here is to keep calling the OC... eventually you will get someone who'll help you. Keep to the line that you won't deal with the CA and you want to pay. It took me almost four months but it finally worked.
