LeslieR
I have anon. call block on my phone, but I am getting a collection call each day from a "wireless number." Are these guys really using their own cell phones to call people???Prior to my putting the block on, this guy was getting through as an anonymous caller. Robert Nashville/Savannah
Whether they are using a cell phone, a broad-band internet connection or a land-line, what's the difference?Considering the amount of long distance phone calls they probably make a cell phone may well be the least-cost option for them. LeslieR
how do you know that they are on a wireless call if it is anonymous?Because before the block, they were anonymous and leaving messages. Now, anonymous calls are blocked and the call comes up as a "wireless call" (as cell phones do) with a number provided. It makes no difference, as Robert suggests, it was just kind of an amazing thought to me that a collector, when faced with a rejected call due to an anon. number, might use his own cell phone to place the call. More an observation than anything.
Robert Nashville/Savannah
It might well have nothing to do with the CA changing to a cell phone and much more to do simply with how the call ID is reflected after you started using the block...in other words, he may have been using a cell phone all along. There are many things that affect how a namd/phone number is or isn't reflected by caller ID.ALso, at least in my area, blocking anonmyous calls only blocks calles from numbers where they are intentionally hidden - it wouldn't block a call from a service that simeply does't have caller ID data attached. Fizzle1979
There's a service out there where people can call from their cell phone, home phone, etc and have a different number show up on your caller ID when they call you. I think it was mainly used for doctor's who use their personal cell phone for business work. So they would have their number show as their office number on caller id instead of their personal cell phone. Some people use it for joking around with people too. I imagine CA's know about the service and use it also. There's a thread on the service here.

IE- if you call my work number and they transfer it to my cell, then work comes up. If I call work and they transfer it to you, work number comes up. Also your right, you can have certian numbers see a diff caller id. Costly tho, but doctors have the money so doesnt really matter. I can see pysc doctors needing that! HA!
