I know that not everyone likes math a lot, but...

Went to the Toyota dealer on my way home to pick up some parts.

Parts guy says it's 64.97 & hands computer printout w/ total thru the window to the cashier.

I hand her 3-20's and a five.

Cashier does not have a fancy little cash register to tell her how much change to give me, so she whoops out a little calculator.

THREE TIMES she enters 65 - 64.97. Keeps messing up, but gets it on the third try: My change is 3 cents.

I guess all those taxes I'm paying that go to the local school system are NOT doing the trick.

What happen to good old fashion Arithmetic!!!

We were talking about this at work today. When did simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division become math? They are simple arithmetic. Math is a higher level course, usually involving at least one variable and an equation.

 That's crazy! Along the same lines though....DH went to the scrap yard this morning with a load of metal. The total owed to DH comes to 84.30. The guy whips out $843 cash and hands it to DH and tells him to have a good day!:shock::shock:

And, NO, DH didn't keep it.

Now that is just crazy!!! That's not just a little off that's plain dumb.

Ok now my 2 cents, heehee, punpoints? 8]

Was checking on what my kid was working on as far as school work. He had a small booklet laying by his books. Title?..............are ya ready????????

The Nightmare of Payday Loans!!!................

Yup, my 10 year old is learning all about predatory lending! This booklet had facts, interest rates charts, even credit card interest rates section. One piece had a quote: "a credit card with an interst rate of 22.9% is fairly typical so we will see what happens when $100 is charged and left unpaid for 6 years." Then there was a chart. Also this quote: "Remember, borrowing money at these high interest rates is never, NEVER the right solution when you are in debt and need money."

Example problems:

We saw that when you borrow $100 at an interest rate of 15% every two weeks, your debt will grow to more than 200 billion dollars in six years if no payments are made.

If the $100 was borrowed at an interset rate of 20% every two weeks, how much will your debts be in six years if no payments are made?

I borrowed his homework.

I am so thrilled he is learning this kind of stuff! How I wished I had exposure to this at a young age.

Next time, if he doesn't want to keep dirty money, tell him to keep what he's owed and send the rest to me. :trumpet:

It's about time they started teaching young folks about money and credit. Maybe they can keep from getting cards when they're 18 and seeing how much they can buy, thinking they don't have to pay for it--at least not now. Let them see what it really costs.

No kidding! I'm still trying to teach my 19 year old. I got her a CC for school last year so she would be able to buy books and supplies without me there. I've been trying to get a bill from her forever so that I can make a payment on it. Then I find out today that she has 3 cards in total and has not made a single payment on these guys in 3 months. So now you see how much we have in late fees.

That breaks my heart.

I bet the best part is when you find out the balances. She needs a verbal a$$-kicking! SHe should have paid that book balance off in FULL when her disbursement check came through.

Actually I had agreed to pay for her cards for the books and no matter how much hell I gave her for the bill she wouldn't get it to me. I already told her that I wouldn't pay for her lates or over the balance fees.

I had a customer in the store the other day.

She wanted 2 drinks that were on sale for 99Cents each

I rang one up and it totaled 1.39. I voided ticket and had to manually enter 99cents.

The total came up to 1.98. The woman argued with me for awhile about how high taxes were for the drink. lol....no taxes. Then she refused b/c she felt like I was over charging her.

I was soooo confused. Last time I checked 99 + 99 always equals 1.98.

She made me ring each one up separately. 99...she gives me a dollar. I give her a penny back. Ring up 99 again, she gives me a dollar, I give her a penny back.

I couldn't help it.....I just had to say "You do know that you just paid me 1.98"

I think the worst is when you find change in your purse after the cashier has already closed out the sale, but the drawer is still open as the cashier is counting out the change.

Oh, here is the 37cents. You can just give me a dollar back.

Cashier: No, I already totaled it. I have to give you the change. Otherwise it will be messed up.

Ughhh.

My boss makes me say that to. He says it's all because of that quick switch scam going on. They either give you the change before you open the drawer or the trasaction has to finish with you giving them the change. It's a pain.xdancex
