Judgements...

Ok so i've read that judgements can stay on your credit report for 7-10 years. My questions is once they fall off your credit report, do you still have a judgement in your given county? Or does the judgment fall off county records after a given amount of time as well? Thanks.

Hello All and happy New Year. I am new to this forum and I need help. I am trying to figure out what my options are. I have two judgments on my credit report. I was never served properly... But did go to the court (traffic) court and went before the judge and told him I was never notified about the tickets. (Long story) Either way, he didn't reduce the amount of the tickets, actually he told me I had to pay the tickets plus interest of about 2500. That was last year, so with interest, its probably soo much more. The next is from rental property again... wasn't served and notified about the case going to court... They are garnishing my check. So now my question is... Is there a way that I can get these judgments off my credit report. Both bills the tickets and the rental property is more than seven years old but according to the credit report, they just filed/reported it in 2002 and 2003... Help.... What can I do? My credit scores are very low... Like 520, 529, 549 I want to get my credit right.... Any suggestions.

First, in regards to Sacs15's question:

Yes, they stay there. The judgments are a matter of public record and will never be removed from the courthouse unless they are expunged. But still, they can only remain on your CR for 7 yrs unless they are unsatisfied judgments, then they can be renewed.

Second, in regards to Zrox's question:

Judgments go by time of filing not when the original default on the debt occurred. Yes the debt may be past 7 years now but it seems that the judgments were well within SOL when they were awarded. So now you're on the timetable of 7 years from when the judgments were filed in court.

As for disputing, you can try disputing the address attached to both judgments and have it removed from your CR. Once that is confirmed, then you can dispute the judgments as NOT YOURS. Some people have had success using this method. Or, you can just dispute the judgments as vacated/settled as long as they ARE satisfied and it looks like you're doing that. It's your choice which you would like to try.
