I have no knowledge of this Pacific Bell account MCM is reporting. The amount is $450. Oddly I sent them a "please validate" letter CMRR, but never recieved the RR, yet they sent me the following letter which indicates they recieved my dispute:

Date: 01-09-2008

Dear "me":

The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute.

As part of our investigation of your dispute it would be helpful to have a copy of any documentation you may have that supports your dispute. In the interim, we have requested that the three major consumer credit reporting agencies change the status of this account to "Disputed."*

Please mail or fax cancelled checks, paid letters, police reports, or any other documentation you may have to support your claim to: (800) 306-4443 Attention: Consumer Relations.

We can be reached at (800) 825-8131 ext. 2980, should you have any further questions.

Please understand this communication is from a debt collector. This is an attempt to collect a debt. Any information will be used for that purpose.

Sincerely,

Consumer Relations

(800) 825-8131 Ext 2980

*Your credit report will not be updated if the fedeeral reporting period has expired, or we have not previously reported on this account.

Your DV was untimely and they're taking the Section 623 approach in an attempt to deem your request frivolous and not have to put any effort forth. :)

I don't understand how it's untimely. I recieved the dunning letter on 12/20/2007

I sent the DV on 1/10/2008, 20 days later

what should I do next?

My mistake! :) I thought this was one of your untimely ones that you'd previously discussed!

As jets said, don't send them anything - you're not required to. Not only are they attempting to get you to do their work for them, but they're attempting to extend the deadline...Wait it out!

Even if you didn't get the card you can look on line at usps.com and see what date it was received and then go 30 days from that. Failing that I'd wait an extra 5 days past 30 from the date I sent it and I'd dispute with the CRAs. They must have received the letter otherwise why respond?

If they verify without validating with you, you have them in a violation.

OK I just mailed the CRA's a request to verify that MCM account. We'll see if MCM validates.
