payin4mistakes
I have three collections on by credit report - 2 cable and 1 public library. Should I just pay these accounts and will that make my credit score go up?
Amerikaner83
you can pay them...but they won't help your score one single bit. In fact, it'll probably lower your score becuse once it updates to paid, it's more of a recent negative than it currently is.
rmuse00
How old are these debts? Public library? Who's collecting on that one?
payin4mistakes
The collection accounts are relatively new - 2006 and Unique National Credit is collecting on the public library account. The cable company is Cox

Amerikaner83
Sorry - TheRoadBack - what does that mean?that means "pay For Delete" - you pay them, they remove themselves form your credit report.
payin4mistakes
I spoke to the collection agency - Credit Control xxxx and they said they would not be amendable to doing something like that - I can try again - are there some magic words to get them to do this? Amerikaner83
sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't.You can try asking a higher-up (president) at the company...
axeslinger80
I had a similar situation with Unique National Collections for an unpaid Library fine last year in MD. I sent in the payment to the Library in June of '06. I pulled my credit report in Jan. '07 and found the Unique collection account. I disputed with Experian. I didn't receive a reply and forgot about it, but when I pulled my credit file in July '07 the account had been deleted. This situation happened to me twice. (I have since learned to read faster and just return my books ontime) Long story short, I'd pay the fine and dispute until its removed.
stefdr
I spoke to the collection agency - Credit Control xxxx and they said they would not be amendable to doing something like that - I can try again - are there some magic words to get them to do this? They just about all say that. They can PFD, they just don't like to. Most people working at CA's are little trolls who live in their mother's basements, and have no power in their real lives. They look at themselves as having power over people's credit reports, and that they are the great protectors of the credit system and that we need to be punished for not paying bills on time. Why should we have as good a report as those who never have bill problems seems to be their issue. I'm as abrupt and rude to them as they have been to me, to the point of actually having them lose their cool and actually start screaming at me on the phone, makes for some funny recordings, me calm and cool and professional, and all the while they are psycho. Let them know you will settle, but it will be a PFD. The least you will accept is paid as agreed and closed. Have it all in writing from them before you agree to send them a cent.I've had a few CA quite pissed at me, but I got the deletes.P.S. For the little trolls at the CA's who lurk on this forum, yes I'm talking about you.
