matlock99
Hi there -- question -- there's an account listed on my credit report that was open from 1996 - 2001. I'm not familiar with it and am listed as an authorized user. The credit limit was $8,100, and the high balance was $9,624. The account was closed at the consumer's request. It just struck me that even though it's a nice older account with no late pays, it might be in my best interest to have it deleted since the high balance is so far over the credit limit. Thoughts?
ShortBus
AU's are going away in a couple months anyhow. Doubt it would be worth the postage to dispute.
TheRoadBack
AU's are going away in a couple months anyhow. Doubt it would be worth the postage to dispute.I disagree..... With the economy being in the shape it is I think that Fico 08 is further off then many think therefore au's will being taken into account while scoring until the change is made. If you are an au and want it deleted now, it costs $3.06 and you are done.
matlock99
Beyond the time and effort, does it make strategic sense to delete? It's an old account with no lates, but I don't know how much the high balance being over the credit limit hurts me.
isislc
I believe it does hurt you. If it says that on the CR it gives the impression that the account was never brought below the credit limit. As for the AU going away in a couple of months, here is a link to an article on Fico08http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/104062/Default-Lines-The-New-Math-of-Credit-Scores
Amerikaner83
Remember....it brings with it a bunch of age as well.....may not be as bad as y'all think...
isislc
Yeah I know, it's one of those gray areas. I would say it really depends on what YOUR CR actually looks like. Do you need the age? Do you have a decent payment history? I would look at those things before dumping it.
Ahntara
"...nice older account with no late pays..."So this is a positive, closed, account. Why would you want it removed? It shows history and since it's closed, doesn't factor into Utl. calculations at all. The fact that it was charged over it's limit makes it look better to scoring software and credit grantors, since that indicates that you are capable of handling even more debt. I recommend to leave it be.
