Hello all

I have been trying to clean up my credit report since about August of last year and to date I have gotten atleast 5 things off my credit report. I first learned about this site after going to ask.com for dispute letters and started reading alot of the topics in cic forum...

my situation is this....

im trying to clean up some nasties i had when i was YOUNG AND DUMB as i call it....

i have a student loan that has been sold two times and am now paying it off.. first it was CITI financial then sold it to USA LOANs then to DIRECT loans to which i am paying it based on my income but the thing is i cant get the CITI financial or USA funds off my report. i have sent dispute letters for both and different times saying the usual...this isnt mine, must be deleted off my report.. but it came back verified for both!!! i dont understand! it looks like i have 3 different loans but in actuality it was for the same loan!

another thing i had a macy's card that i had and let it go to the "charge off" section but i paid them off in return they gave me back the card with the same credit limit that the charge off was for....currently i have been paying this card every month for the past 6 months on time and am happy but i want to send them a "good will" letter so they can take the old "charge off" off and boost up my score...

i also had a crap 1 card that i let go to "charge off" the original credit limit was $200 and now that darn bill is almost $959!!!!

i dont know whether or not to settle that account to have it stop buidling up and before they take me to court for it...i want to settle for around $400-$450...

i have some other nasties but they are all on like different reports and i dont want to take up the whole screen but i will get back with you.

So far i have these cards

Orchard Bank $300

Macy's $535

Tribute $450

I applied for a JC penney card and will get a response in 7 to 10 days.

If i apply for more cards will my score go down? im in the mid to low 500's. I dont know... Im still working on them...

MY FICO SCORES AS OF 01/11/2008

TRANSUNION: 567

EXPERIAN: 563

EQUIFAX: 527:-(

If the CITI Financial and USA Funds accounts are reporting with a $0 balance and showing that they're not currently open, they can still report. It's part of your credit history. If they're showing with an open balance and/or showing any type of current payment history, that's a different story.

This might all depend on how many times you were late with the card, how long you allowed the account to remain in default, etc. You can definitely try sending a GW letter, but if your account was in default for a good amount of time, I would probably give the card about a year of perfect payment history to give a better impression.

If you're offering them a settlement for less than what they're claiming you owe, be prepared for Capital One to mark your account as Paid and that's about it. Make sure you get all agreements in writing, which includes Capital One's written agreement that by accepting your settlement offer, there will be no future collection activity regarding this account. Period. Some CC's are pretty well-known for accepting a settlement for less than what you owe and coming after you a few years later for the remaining balance.

Are those your CL's on your cards or your balances? At this point, based upon your scores and the bit of past credit history you've shared, I'd work on building up a positive payment history with the cards you already have rather than applying for new credit. You've already had multiple cards in CO status, one of which you can't afford to PIF - so why take on more credit at this point when it's not necessarily needed?

those are all the balances on the cards....for all of them except for the Orchard bank card, i have been paying them for 7-8 months on time so hopefully ill be ok....on my macy's charge off, i will send them the letter after a year....the student loans are

CITI

balance $0

DOLA 09/2004

Date closed 09/2005

status: collection account defaulted loan claim filed against guarantor

USA FUNDS
