rmuse00
Anyone ever use them? Found this article on them. Then I realized I had quite a few giftcards collecting dust? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22398385/I hear that billions of dollars are wasted on cards that are never redeemed. I saw this article and realized I still had giftcards I never used. For example I have best buy. Nothing I really want to get from them. Then there is one for a gaming restaurant worth 2 hours of computer gaming. Not really interested, etc..... Checked out the website at http://swapagift.com/The website also says that giftcards can be used to pay bills. I have at least 5 $25 giftcards I never used. I'll be checking the expiration on those. I just didn't realize you could do anything with a giftcard other than redeem at the place it was bought at.

Amerikaner83
Be careful with those things though...heard something on the news that folks are selling blank gift cards and screwing the buyer...not sure if it was that site or not, but still. isislc
Be careful with those things though...heard something on the news that folks are selling blank gift cards and screwing the buyer...not sure if it was that site or not, but still. That is correct Amerikaner. Swapping gift cards isn't a new business, they have been around for a while. Usually what you end up doing is swapping your card for another one. You usually lose a percentage of the original gift card price when you do this. Amerikaner, nowadays at least the respectable sites, require them to be mailed in ahead of time so that they can determine whether or not the gift cards being traded are valid or not. I was actually looking at starting a business doing gift card swaps but if you do a google search on them, you'll get a lot of hits. Another thing to remember, don't let those "no expiration" cards collect too much dust. Last year, congress was in talks about now charging corporations for a percentage of unused gift cards as a tax instead of letting companies benefit from them going unused. If you don't use your gift card in a year, it will be forfeit as abandoned property and your state government can claim it.
rmuse00
Isislc,I was looking at them more for the swaping than buying. If I no use for the card I would rather get a percentage on a card I will use then let it sit. Seriously now, the one I got for 2 hours at a restaurant that has gaming? When would I go to a restaurant with my 4 kids and then afterwards sit at a computer for 2 hours playing video games? Not my kind of thing. Hate to admit I am too old for that and my kids too young. That's a card worth $25. I asked my nephews if they wanted it and they even passed it up. They own X-box and all those systems. I would't do it for just one card but like I said I do have 5 others that I will just not use. If I lose some of the value I'm alright with that considering they have absolutely no value to me at the moment. Since this post I actually ended up giving the gaming and the theater one to a friend at work. I've had that movie one for a year! BTW, Isislc, the one for the restaurant/gaming does charge $1.50 after a year for nonuse so you were right on the money with that, just noticed it on the back of one of the cards. morrow
Another good one is www.cardavenue.com Ive used it several times and had great experiences. They verify the card before you can put it up for trade/auction. Not sure how. They also have a feedback system, similar to ebay.Good stuff. Haa haa, I would give up the gaming one too. Anything that I can use in a department store or restaurant type we end up using. When i bought everyone the playstation 2 for xmas I got myself a game too and haven't even touched it once. I would rather clean or such. lol
