bigcountry
Yes, I am one of the idiots that defaulted on a student loan. I was brand new to real life, looking for job, didnt understand the whole deferment/forebearance process and my loan with my lender defaulted because I couldnt afford the payments (yes, 100% my fault, moving on). Well a few days ago, I finished the nine month rehabilitation program (through ECMC) but I received a collections letter dated a few days before that saying that the loan in question has been sent to their collections company and is now due for immediate payment. I have 2 lenders for my entire student loan process so that I would only have to send 2 checks a month and not 5 different ones. The second lender is 100% up to date and never been late because I could easily afford those payments. I did recently ask for a deferment on the 2nd lender due to economic hardship (personal injury that kept me from being able to work for 4 months) and it was granted. So I responded to the Collections letter via phone and they company in question does not have my correct school as the institution, they were looking at my credit and trying to get me to refinance my pos car and nothing they were saying was true at all . I flat out refused anything the person on the phone said stating that 100% of everything she told me was wrong, which it was, and they told me to call back later to talk to a supervisor (which I have not done yet). I did name drop the second lender which I guess I shouldnt have and they said I owed them for that one as well(which doesnt make sense because that account is still active and under deferment for 2 more months).I am new in dealing with all this but what is the deal with this collection company and how do I go about dealing with them. someonesomewhere
Never talk to a CA on the phone.Always DV a CA when it's timely, and consider doing it when it ain't timely.

bigcountry
doh!!I tried speaking with them again and explaining to them that I was repaying the loan to ECMC (the guarantor) for rehabilitation (not the creditor INSERTRANDOMBANKNAME) and these guys wouldnt listen and were saying that I owed them an immediate payment so i sent a DV letter yesterday. Guess Ill speak with ECMC later on today
