Kennedy
Is it possible to transfer credit history, from a SSN # to a TIN #. And what is the procedure of filing a fraud alert? Is it true that the bureaus need to call you in order to allow someone to run your credit when you apply for the fraud alert? And how long is it good for? Thanks
ShortBus
Can't answer the first question, but I wouldn't bet on it. Are you sure you want to file a FA and not just freeze your CR? A FA won't prevent anyone from pulling your CR, it'll just have a message on it that they need to verify your ID. You creditors will likely call you to confirm, but the CRAs won't. To prevent someone from pulling your CR, you'll need to freeze it. You do this by simply calling each CRA. Note that the CRA won't call you each time someone tries to pull a frozen report, it will just deny them access to it.
Kennedy
I agree, so it seems, that freezing the account is what I need to do, but is there a another way to do it other than calling them. Im going to assume, that getting through the bureaus is next to impossible. And do you have to call them back to unfreeze it?
willingtocope
Might help us to know just what it is you're trying to accomplish? A little background, maybe?
Kennedy
I have a co-worker, who at one time I guess had his credit used fraudulently, mind you this was like 4 years ago or something, he has about 5 good tradelines mixed in with some collections. His 1st question had been, being that he has had a TIN# for a while with no credit info on it, if he could contatct the creditors and or bureaus to update his info, using the TIN # now.And in order to prevent pulling his credit report in the future, putting a freeze on it I guess.
