Ok...ive been geting calls from two other collections people. ( one "unknown" and one number from Florida) I havent been answering the phone and they havent left messages. However, one just called from area code 727 area. They left a message and asked me to call back. They ( the person calling) only identified himself by name...but not who they were...or even if they are a collections company (which im sure they are) I'm going to call back...but please, someone give me some guidence as to whatt to say...what NOT to say...what to ask....etc. Do I record? I know i'll be taking notes. This will be my actual first time to talk to a collections agency. Anyone please help.

Personally I wouldn't speak with them at all.

You might want to answer the phone to find out who it is,

and ask them for all communication to be via mail.

That's it in a nutshell.

Agreed and try to get an address if you can. But as long as you know the name, you can probably find them on your EX in the soft pull section if you use the back door method to pull.

Umm..how about, "F--k you and the horse you rode in on."

Not helpful, sorry. Other folks responding are giving good ideas. I wouldn't talk to 'em either. Just tell them to mail the information to you. Any discussion you have you'll regret because they'll just try to scare or shame you into giving them your bank information.

First of all, we must all realize that the collector is in deep doo doo if they do not make sure that the person they discuss the debt with is the alleged debtor and not some third party. So the rational CA will want the proper party to call them so their butt is covered.

In terms of talking to a CA over the phone, I would have to say its seldom advisable. In my case, green as grass, I did, and I managed not to hurt myself 20 20 hindsight. And in fact playing scared and then following up started what ended up being a winning lull them into a false sense of security unpleasant surprise for them as I kept raising the stakes. But it was more luck than skill in initial contact

When response times are denominated in 30 day chunks, why commit yourself in a spur of the moment response? Revenge is a dish best served cold. Do it in writing and consider every single word with the luxury of time is the best generic advice.

Never talk to a CA without a phone recorder running and a good working knowledge of CA sleeze is and remains my advice. The CA has most of the aces in that game.

If I'm feeling in a froggy mood, I'll say, "I'm worshipping the devil right now. Do you mind calling back in about an hour or so? I should be all finished with the sacrifice by then."

I've done that twice and never heard back. One was Arrow and the other was NCO. Very funny.
