musrcng
3 years ago I went though a bankruptcy and divorce. I have finally been able to get back on track. I haven't had any credit cards or bank accounts in this time. I just started a new job making $24 an hour and plan to get a checking account in the next few weeks. I have a credit score of 629 and I am wondering if I should try to get a credit card right now or wait for a couple weeks. I am getting really impatient about getting back to where my life was before my ex tried to destroy it. Thanks for any help
sparky256DSL
Everyone has a different situation but having open accounts(current) and credit limits will help increase your score. Also if you have any baddies, you should try and get those removed with the technics on this site.
whocares
Have you pulled your reports? And is there anything bad on them? You may need to clear up the BK issue before trying to get credit...Good Luck
andrena67
I have a friend that filed bankruptcy, she waited 3 yrs and applied for secured loans and credit cards, to build her credit. It will not replace the bk, but will show a positive credit history.

Thanks for any helpTo backup what I am going to say, go Bankrate.com and run through there FICO simulator with and without having a credit card. You will see that having a credit card with carring a low balance will raise your fico score by 50 pts. Check it out. These approve easily, and you want more, just tell me.. Also try capital one if you have a 629 on Equifax. They pull all three, but they base their decision on Equifax.Try www.firstpremierbank.comwww.orchardbank.comhttp://www.hsbccreditcard.com/Just be careful not to MAX out the cards. That will lower your score.Joseph
Ravenous Wolf
With three years behind you, check out your local credit union first. They will have much better terms than the outfits that want to bend you over.See the site below for credit unions in your area:www.CreditUnionAccess.com
musrcng
Thanks for the advice everyone. On monday I start working for Disneyland and I will get in their credit union and try to get a card with them. I had some problems with annualcreditreport and have to wait for my reports to be mailed to me. My only problem is I live forty miles from disney and I need cheap transportation. I am trying to finance a motorcycle and I am being told after I get my first check deposited in the credit union they will finance me. I appreciate all the help and I will keeping posting with my questions and efforts on fixing my credit.
