steffyk
I received a letter dated 3/10/2008, from CreditOne,LLC in Metarie, LA. Its regarding a Citibank MC account. The amount CreditOne says I owe is...(wait for it.....) $18410.31. Pretty funny, since I've never had an account with Citibank. I called Citibank with the account # provided and was told that it is a nonexistent number. So, I called CreditOne this AM, and was told that the account was opened in Aug 1998, and went into delinquency in 9/1999CreditOne purchased the account from Citibank in Jan 2001, and I supposedly made a $4000 payment 5/2004. Here's the kicker...I called CreditOne back to clarify some info I neglected to write down, spoke to the same person, and she denied the $4000 payment. She said that it was only $110, and it was a direct payment. Oh, and guess what else? It was paid in cash, so it can't be tracked! She couldn't tell me if I made the payment directly to Citibank or to CreditOne. I've done some research today, and found out that some CAs routinely "re-age" accounts to fall within the SOLs in certain states. In TX the SOL is 4 years. Handy since I was told I made the last payment 5/2004, and its now 3/2008. Its so blatant, that its laughable!!! I plan on sending out the DV ASAP, but I SO want to mess with them first!Anyone else had dealings with these lovely folks?
Robert Nashville/Savannah
I would HIGHLY encourage you to take this seriously and get to the bottom of this. When you absolutely know an alleged account isn’t your account then there is really only two viable possibilities; 1) is that this is simple misidentification in that they’ve identified you as the debtor when it’s actually someone else that may have the same or similar name, etc…2) is that this is outright ID theft. In either case, you need to be proactive – if they really think you owe $18K they aren’t going to just “go away”.Personally, I’d start the DV process – if they answer (doubtful but you never know) then you should get enough info to know which of the two possibilities you are dealing with. steffyk
Typing the DV right now. The thing is, none of this shows up on any credit report. Not even the original Citibank account. The amount comes from the original debt of $5062, plus interest since 9/1999. They also reference the fact that my ex husband was also on the acct. I talked to him and he hasn't received anything in the mail. What gets me is, we bought a house in 2004, and our mortgage broker gave us a list of all negatives on our credit reports, and we paid every single one of them off. Nothing shows up on the reports anymore. We recently divorced, is it possible that the CA has found this out and is trying to bully me into paying up? They offered to accept $4050 and call it even, or I could pay $140 and they would delete $13000 of the debt. It sounds really fishy to me... There is a FT Worth office listed though. Not sure if they are one in the same:Principal Name: Credit One LLC# 97Address:2672 Gravel DriveFort Worth, TX 76118- File Number:990160 Status:Active Date Filed:9/27/1999 Cancellation Date:Phone:Bonding Company:Old Republic Surety Company Bond No:LLI1089250 I would do as Robert suggests and DV them immediately and also take the steps to report ID Theft:http://debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219304Kinda funny how they say you made a cash payment. That would be case of their word against yours since there is no way to track a cash payment. Are they or Citi reporting on your CR's?Not a lot about them on Bud's site. Seem like typical bottom feeders:http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/credit_one_llc.htm

If they continue collection attempts after they receive your DV, then I would either C&D or if it is ID theft, file appropriate paperwork and send that to them and the CRA's. Neither on of them has reported anything on my CRs in the last 10 yrs. Equifax told me that items are deleted after 10 yrs. Supposedly this account was opened in Aug 1998. The only thing that shows up is an inquiry on my Experian CR from CreditOne and surprise, surprise, it showed up today. After I talked to them! If you sure this is not yours, go the ID theft route and get fraud alerts placed on you CR's. You might hae to freeze them to keep them from doing th ehard pulls. Citibank told me that they never had an account listed for that number. Even if it was mine, the CRAs should have had a record either positive or negative back in 04 when I bought my house. I saw the CR and neither Citibank or CreditOne was listed anywhere. Its really strange. I asked CreditOne to verify the last 4 digits of the SS# they had for the acct. and they were mine. I just wonder why they've waited so long to contact me if they've had the acct since 2001.
