Attorney entitled to amount of claim?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am very new here so hopefully I am posting in the proper category. It seems there are some very helpful people posting so thought I'd run this one by you.

Just received papers (through the County Sherrif's office - I am in PA) through a law firm who has apparently acquired an old credit card debt of mine. There is no court date on the papers but they indicate they are bringing a civil case against us and looking to get a judgement in the amount of $2,100. The balance on the old card was less than $1,000. Do I have any chance of either:

1) Negotiating with them to accept $1,000 (or less)

2) Attending the Civil hearing and having the judge rule in their favor for an amount less than that they are seeking?

3) Any other options?

I already have 1 judgement (brought by a law firm who acquired another old cc debt) and am making monthly payments to the firm.

Thank you for any advice!
