Webfox
Does anyone know what the deal is with removing closed credit card account from your credit report. Or how long these items would stay on credit report? Also if I have paid a collection account, is it possible to get them removed from my credit report, and how long would that take.Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided. jasen
Any tradeline will stay on your report for a maximum of 7.5 years after it either first went delinquent or was closed. As for getting them deleted, there are no hard rules. Closed or paid accounts are especially difficult to get rid of. The creditor has little reason to even bother responding to you, let alone bow to any demands. That's not to say it's impossible. Just harder. Every tradeline or creditor is different, and my have different weaknesses to poke and prod at.

jasen
They had better respond to a CRA's request for verification of accurate info! They do. Actually, it would easier for us if they didn't; the CRA would have to delete the tradeline if they never responded. They use automated systems, like E-Oscar, which does it all for them. To me, that doesn't technically qualify as an "investigation", but it's legal, and it's what almost all of them do.However, once you've disputed a couple times and it's come back verified, the CRA will stop accepting disputes on that tradeline. And that's when you might start with letters to the OC, which they're within their rights to ignore. But, there is case law that refutes using E-oscar. Has there been a change in legislation?
isislc
Unless the closed accounts have any negative notations to them, you really don't want to get rid of them. These accounts will give you age. Accounts reporting positively can actually stay on your reports for as long as 10 years.
