Guest BucFan
I want to first thank everyone here for the hard work you've put into helping others with their credit woes...Secondly, can someone please clarify the rule of thumb on paying off a debt.I have three items on my EQ report in collections. Small amounts- $50,$76,$45.I've read on here that paying these can be the worst thing you can do.I've also read on here that items will/might be removed.Which is it? How do I know? I'm afraid to pay and make it worse...I disputed the items but they remained as verified. In the end, I don't mind paying them but need them removed. Thanks a ton, in advance... you all rock! Guest BucFan
You want to PFD or Pay for Delete.Gotch. So if I can't get the deletion guaranteed in writing prior to payment... don't pay it.See, I'm thick headed but I thnk I'm getting it.
lovebug5
With small amounts like that, what has worked for me is getting in touch with the OC's and explaining to them that I wasn't aware of the balance due and I would've never allowed such a small amount go into collections. I let them know that I'm more than willing to pay the debt, under the condition that the OC notifies the CA in writing that they are pulling the account back and that all references to the account on my CR's should be removed. I asked to be CC'd on this letter...Then I pay the debt. I haven't much seen a need to negotiate a $50 debt, as I've found that straight up paying it has resulted in deletions much more quickly than attempting to lower the amount.
