LeslieR
So I called the provider's office this AM after he didn't respond to my PFD letter. The CA has been jacking me around for awhile. The doc's office offered me a 50% settlement. He said "send it to xxx CA". I said, well that's very nice of you (I was prepared to pay 100%) but I'd rather send it to you and leave xxx CA out of it." He said, "that's fine. I'll call them right now and tell them to close the account. You pay me and let me know if the CA doesn't delete it within 30 days."So I not only got a PFD out of the deal, I got a 50% settlement!!!!Sometimes, it "pays" to just call and have a nice conversation with someone (not a CA). I apologized for the long delay in payment and he interrupted and told me HE was sorry for not ever being able to talk to me before this because he usually tries to phone people before things go to collections (I moved shortly after being seen there). He told me he hoped this hadn't caused me too much stress!!!!!!!!!!So I'm going off, feeling good about humanity this morning. Ms. Scrooge collector (as well as my other MD in collections who won't do a $55 PFD), read and learn!!!

isislc
I don't mean to be a party pooper but I've seen too many people get good news then get stabbed in the back, so to speak. It's not right but when it comes to money, it CAN bring the worst out in people.
LeslieR
I know what you mean. But I got the sense that he was sincere. He told me that they have less than 10 accounts in collections for their WHOLE PRACTICE...which in some respects made me feel like even more of a deadbeat...LOL...but on the other hand speaks to the efforts he goes to to work with people. Flipper
That is wonderful! And a big WTG for the doc! Kind of reinforces my belief that these folks just want their money and really don't want to harm anyone...well most docs anyway. Some are jerks. Good and bad everywhere. Congrats! Ar.Bee
Is it normal that a OC (dentist for example) doesnt report on your CR but the CA does?
LeslieR
Yes. That's why docs use CAs - the CA handles that stuff.
LeslieR
Just an update - got a notice from the CA that they have closed and will be deleting this account within the next 30 days. Whoo hoo!

LeslieR
I know...that leaves me with just one collection (also a medical who refused a PFD). I am going to try to just send them a check (the OC) and then whychat them with a hippa violation. It's only $55 so the worst that can happen is that I get a paid collection, which is due to drop off in about a year and a half. And who knows, w/ a zero balance, the CA might stop reporting and I could dispute it off. It's a very small operation that serves doctor's offices in a small three county region of a state I used to live in.
LeslieR
UPDATE --Due to the Certegy data theft mess, extended fraud alerts were slapped on all three of my CRs. I was kinda po'd at first...but an interesting thing has happened:The old student loan derogratories that were due to fall off within the next six months disappeared from EQ immediately after the FA went up (without my even disputing) ... as did the medical I mentioned above (the one the doc wouldn't accept a PFD for). TODAY, about a week later, same medical was dumped from EXP. Wasn't due to be deleted until late-'09.
