trich701 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Has this ever happened to you....I applied for Home Depot Online about a month, maybe two ago declined. Instant credit in the store today, approved. I was wondering if companies are more lenient in the store. Before today, I could not get any Citibank love. And the second part to this is, is Home Depot good about periodic credit line increases, my limit was $500.
CleverCynic Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 This phenomena is long on testimonials and short on proof. It seems everyone gives up and tries in-store long after the internet denials... it is likely credit has improved sufficiently by then in many of those cases... add to that many were declined in-store just as often. But, there are plenty who are convinced in-store may be a little easier. There's also a remote possibility that that particular stores profitability and client base may play a role... you might get denied for using just any store, but it's possible that location is in a better position to take a loss if necessary. Just thinking out loud here.
razr Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I hate to suffer the shame of denial in person....-r
jq26 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Just a theory, but in-store while making purchases seems to increase the chance of approval. ALL of my internet store card apps were denied, whereas Home Depot, Lowe's, and Circuit City all gave approval in-store with large purchases pending (refrigerator #1, refrigerator #2, and laptop, respectively). The approvals came despite a BK on the record- so the theory goes that they are more willing to gamble on you if they can make a nice chunk of change on you the same day. No one knows how true it is because there really is no way to test this- it is all going to be anecdotal.
Moneedshelp Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I was thinking about trying for a dillards in store yest, but I didn't want to be declined. Especailly after the salesperson and I had been talking and having a great time discussing our travels (I was purchasing luggage). I really didn't want to be embarrassed .
trich701 Posted April 21, 2008 Author Report Posted April 21, 2008 I totally can relate to the being afraid to apply in person. I usually warn the salesperson of the decline that is sure to come by stating "I have so many new accounts lately, they will most likely decline me, but lets give it a shot" Thankfully the two times I tried this (Steinmart and Home Depot) I was approved
Magdalen77 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I totally can relate to the being afraid to apply in person. I usually warn the salesperson of the decline that is sure to come by stating "I have so many new accounts lately, they will most likely decline me, but lets give it a shot" Thankfully the two times I tried this (Steinmart and Home Depot) I was approved I got kicked to the curb by both Home Depot and Lowe's. When my EQ score went up above 700 I decided to re-apply for Lowe's. They approved for, for only $750, but it's a start.
jq26 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 They approved for, for only $750, but it's a start.Haha. You got me beat by $25.
Magdalen77 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Haha. You got me beat by $25. I suspect I'll get it upped when I start buying stuff for my house (whenever we get the house). When I buy a washer and dryer I'll get it there. It will beat the heck out of Rent-a-Center. (When my credit was seriously crappy I bought a TV at RAC. I was a good payer, paid it off slightly earlier, ever since then RAC wants me back. Sure, if I got someone to pay $1500 for a $750 TV, I'd like them too.)
