Knowledge is power!

Last week I was at my local civil court, dropping off a motion, and there happened to be almost a dozen people on a line to answer the summons they had received. It was especially interesting that they all had been served by various JDB's and CA's, all in an effort to collect a debt.

One man started saying to another how angry he was to be sued, when the debt in question was past the SOL. This was heard by all those in line, and somehow triggered a "group" conversation about many of the issues discussed on this forum. Even though I had already finished dropping off my motion, I ended up staying around for some time, as it was quite interesting to partake in the discussion that was going on.

What I was very happy to hear was that consumers, at least the ones I had spoken with, are very knowledgeable about the law, and their rights, when it comes to debt collection. Even greater was the fact that no one seemed afraid of going to court; to the contrary, there were those who were happy to have a shot at counter-suing for violations and such, hoping to win and collect their own money from those who were suing them!8-)

I only hope this was not an isolated event, and that people nationwide become more educated and knowledgeable of exactly what their rights are, in addition to the laws that the CA's and JDB's must abide by. Power to the people!
