:?Hello,

I sent a my first DV letter to Midland Credit Managment about 3 weeks ago. I have just received a letter in the mail asking me to please send them any cancelled checks, blah, blah. I figured this is a good sign, since it sounds like they are looking for anything with which to validate the debt. In the mean time I have heard back from Experian and Equifax. Experian sent me a letter which I think basically said that the debt is validated and Equifax sent me an 'updated' credit report that now says that the debt has been validated. Does this mean that MCM has validated the debt and sent the CRAs notification? Also, I believe this debt to be outisde the SOL in California, which I wrote in my letter to the CRAs, however, there was no mention of this in their reponse. Please help me understand what is going on. Thanks.

SOL means nothing to CRAs - this is ONLY useful if you are sued and and use it as a defense. It means nothing else. Do not confuse it with the reporting period that items are allowed on your report.

Don't send them anything except DV letters.

You sent them a DV request asking them to send you verification documents proving this debt is yours.

They have not done that.

Your next move is to send a MOV (method of verification) request to the CRAs (EX and EQ). Remember - the CRAs verify pretty much everything so don't get disheartened. Do a search for "OSCAR" - or better still, read the DV section.

At the same time you send the MOV letter to the CRSs, send the second letter to Midland. Go to the DV corner of this website and find the letter. Send it. Sounds like they have no paperwork proving this debt is yours, or anyone elses.

Follow the flowchart for DVing and you will be fine.

If the debt is past the SOL that's great. But first thing is first - send the second DV letter and the request to the CRAs for MOV.

Don't panic, get disheartened, or try to speed the process up. Keep saving the green cards and all your correspondence, and you will be ok.

READ. Read the DV information on this site. Don't go into this process not fully understanding how it works.

Good luck!
