jmranchman
I am a newbie here and I appreciate all of the great info out there. I will try to be as short as possible with my question (although it will be tough).About ten years ago, I completely stopped paying two credit cards I had with Citibank. Lets just say I ran into job problems (lay off). I havent paid a dime towards these since that point. I have been attempting to clean up my credit, and I have most everything in line at this point. However, my first credit report pull since that time was in August of 2007 and I had two accounts listed with 1st Select. It had been a long time but the balances looked familiar. I assumed 1st Select had possibly purchased Citibank because I dont see whereas 1st Select is a CA but an OC. I put two and two together believing these two accounts were the original Citibank accounts (that is the only thing I can think of since I had not opened accounts with 1st Select). Now, those same two accounts are showing as being with Providian. To make matters worse, they are stating on my Experian report that they will not drop off until 2013. It also states they were opened in April of 2003. Now either my math is off or something else, but if that was the case, wouldnt they drop off in April of 2010? And the thing is, I havent paid on either of these accounts since 1998. I am very confused about this as these are the only two that I am really stuck on my next course of action. I have opened four credit card accounts since 2004, all of which I keep completely paid off monthly since they were opened. I havent opened ANYTHING other than that since 1998. Thanks for the replies and I do apologize for the lengthy post.
CDL
I would call the CRAs and find out the DOFD with the 1st Select accounts. Then you need to write a detailed letter to the CRAs stating that the other accounts are related to the 1st Select accounts and if you haven't made a payment since 1998 then tell them they are re-aged and obsolete. jmranchman
Thanks CDL...I will do that....I found out last nite that 1st Select is THE JDB for Providian....I guess Providian could have decided to repossess the debt from their own JDB....it is confusing, no doubt...thanks again CDL

jmranchman
Thanks for all of your replies.....After going thru my paperwork and CR's, I found a couple of things....first, I did find that the original creditor was Fleet Bank not Citibank as I originally thought....I did have a FLeet bank card years ago that I stopped paying on around the same time I stopped paying the Citibank cards that I talked about in my original post..I never had two accounts with them though and the balances are showing differently...as best I can tell, this went from Fleet (OC) to 1st Select to Credigy and is now being reported by Providian. They are also being reported still by Credigy AND Providian on two of my CR's. One of the accounts (one reported by Credigy) dropped off Experian last month because of the 7 year limit. However, that same account is being reported simultaneously with Providian and is still there. My question is, is it legal for the same account to be reported by two CA's? Credigy has completely different DOFD info than what is being reported by Providian. Is there a way I can use this legally? Thanks again for all of your help.
