LuckyLucky
first of all-im sorry if this is too simple of a question and has been asked somewhere on the forum before...i definitely have been digging around here and reading as much as i can-which is sadly not much-a newly walking baby is keeping me on the constant move and i can barely park my butt here long enough to read one thread! So yea, not asking out of laziness to look for the answers myself, but rather because i need to act now, and quickly.I have a debt that is about to get charged off. Now, that means its going to collections right? So, i need to take care of it now i think i only have days left. They are very nice, call me on my cell and they have already offered more than once to settle for around $400- the debt at this point is close to $1500.This is nothing that I want to dispute-it is definitely a debt of mine that I actually feel bad about-it is from Care Credit which is a line of credit you can get to take care of medical issues. I got it with the best intentions but went through some hard times with a very complicated pregnancy that ended badly and basically the debt went unpaid. What should I do now-these people are going to call me again today and I just want to take care of this.Thank you for your advice! thegame26
I probably would take the deal. Make sure you get something in writting that basically says the account is being settled for the $400 and no further activity will take place with this account including the selling, transfer, opening, etc.Might even want to get a PFD but that may be pushing your luck and depending on how old the account is it may hurt your credit score. lovebug5
You know this debt is yours. If you have the cash to pay it, pay it.
LuckyLucky
just realized that i dont think i made my questions clear/running around after kids and trying to do this at the same time!are there different ways of taking care of this payment to make it appear as positive as possible on my credit report?when i pay it, will it appear as "debt settled" or something like that? Is that ok? What I am asking is- how exactly should I pay it (check, card etc) and what do I ask them for?THANKS!
lovebug5
I would always negotiate any type of payment arrangements in writing. Never give a CA your bank account information over the phone. If you want something done in exchange for your payment, it never hurts to ask...But make sure you ask in writing.
swirlgirl
Do a search for PFD (pay for delete). Basically, it's a letter saying you'll pay the debt in exchange for getting the account deleted from your credit report. It's a long shot, but you always want to make the request in writing. If they don't agree to a full deletion, try to get it listed as "paid as agreed."
