Robert Nashville/Savannah
Sometimes, yes..sometimes no.It all depends on what the documents (that created the debt) say about such things as well as what the laws of your state allow.
willingtocope
And, if its two letters from the same CA, and they're only a month or so apart, its entirely possible they've just screwed up the amount. Are they both from the same Midland office?

willingtocope
Its just that CAs and JDBs are not good record keepers...and, the people they hire to put together dunning letters are not real careful about accuracy. That's the primary reason I say to ALWAYS respond to a letter from a CA with a DV. It not that you're saying "this isn't my debt"...its that you're telling them to prove to you that they have the right person, the right account, the right amount, and the right to collect in your state.CAs get lists...sometimes electronically, sometimes just printouts. Sometimes the names on those lists have addresses...sometimes the CA minimum wage help get to "match" names with other lists. Sometimes the list has amounts...sometimes they don't. Sometimes the minimum wage help gets to "calculate how much interest should I add?".
