Bureau Hater
I spent a long time disputing negs. I have no negative accounts or inquiries reporting now. Unfortunately, the only positive trades(2) showing up are from years ago and they are long closed. Should I start with a secured or can anyone recommend a standard card. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
borgman72000
As much as I hate to say it, try with Capitol One rather than a sub-prime bank. Cap 1 has the Credit Steps card that will start you out with (re)building your credit. Supposedly, I've heard this but have yet to see it myself, if you use it often and make multiple payments every month, they show you some nice love. I've had mine since October of '07, I rack up about $300 in charges every week and PIF every Monday, they've yet to show me some real love other than my "Steps" increase at 3 months.Try with BofA too. You may or may not get it, but they do offer the 99/500 program for (re)builders.
looksbothways
My best luck was with Target and HSBC (sub prime). Then I was able to get the BOA 99/500, but STILL can not get a capital one card of any kind. Of course, I can't get Hooters either and everyone else seems to have luck with them. Go figure. KMoney
I would definitely apply for the Cap1 and a secured cc with BOA

Go figure.Looks, you and I are the same. Until very recently, I got no love from Target and I can't get Hooters, but ended up getting Target a few weeks ago [still no Hooters though] (maybe 2 months?). I started rebuilding with CJ, Macys, and HSBC. Had Rewards 660, but realized I was better off without them. Now, I'm pretty much ok but I could be doing much much better. OP, take a look at my signature. You may do yourself very well with a BOA secured. Put a minimum of $500 bucks (or whatever you can afford) and let the good times roll. Macys will also show you love (you have no negs...you should see nice CL).
whocares
Start with Crown Jewelers 1500.00 CL and no credit check, look for threads about it. lots of them on here...Buy something, I spent 30.00 paid off in 2 months, now I have a 2500.00 CL with themalso try HSBC/Orchard HSBC has a card selector and it will tell you what card your qualified for...Also try for a few store cards. like Wal mart and target a variety will help your scores...Just look what I did in a yearBest of luck to ya!~!!
