whocares
Tribute card and first premiere are dead giveaways of previous bad credit...Try HSBC or BOFA secured, they are more respectable and that should help....good luck

Now that's a crock, talk about unfair.Anyhow, HSBC is out of the question... (bad run-in with them back 8 years ago, had to settle for less than agreed.)So, you think I should cancel FP and Tribute? creditreformer
there comes a point when your subprimes start to hurt you. ex., if all lenders see is 'known subprimes' and 3 digit CLs, they're probably not going to be knocking on your door w/say 5k cls. did you burn any prime lenders in the past?do you have any public records- bk, tax liens, etchave you checked whogavemecreditdotcom? No. Never had one. I burnt HSBC but it's not on my CR (aged off)2. No3. Yes, that's where I first heard of the Hooters Merrick Card. I'll be putting down a grand on a secured card. I just hate that they say "secured" on my CR. I was hoping for a REAL card. I thought with my scores, it wouldn't be a problem.
Macattack
try BOA 99/500 sercured card, it's a step in the right direction.I will. It'll be with my CU, though. I just didn't understand how, with scores quite similar to yours, I cannot get a card.
betam4x
If you open up a secured card with HSBC it doesn't show up as secured.BoA 99/500 isn't a fully secured card. You pay $99 and get a card with a credit limit of $500. You can apply at any BoA branch, you just have to ask for the 99/500 credit card deal. I got a long lecture about credit from the lady when I opened it.
whocares
I will. It'll be with my CU, though. I just didn't understand how, with scores quite similar to yours, I cannot get a card. 2I did not start with these scores and I have been careful about the credit I have applied for. I would never get a FP or tribute card, I do have a long history with student loans....I had a few collections and no credit for about 20 years, the baddies deopped off years ago.I did have an Orchard secured card for 4 years with a perfect payment history...so I did have something to have credit based on....I have 750,000.00 in assets an no debt...I own several houses and my shop and always paid cash...I drive a 15 year old car and did have a new car once...paid it off eventually. But I had never had a mortgage and when I wanted a line of credit for my shop I was denied...no payment history and owing student loans of almost 100,000.00. They are paid off now.So not wanting to refinace my homes or business I fixed my credit. I still try to PIF each month but in the last 6 months I have been running with small balances...I need a payment history. You need a plan, try applying for Crown Jewlelers, BOA and maybe target and wal-mart...you need a variety to improve your scores...Start small and pay on time or early...don't always PIF, carry a small balance...It has taken me awhile to get where I am....you will get there too with proper patience and planning...Good luck
dallas01
I haven't posted on this board in awhile I've been in hiding.Anyway my wife has a charge off from hsbc on her credit report and it shows dola as 2003 she's got 3 HSBC credit cards. Not the Orchard but the HSBC Cards. So you don't have anything to loose by using the preapproval link at their site. As for sub-prime cards and not getting a good prime card with them on your reports, I've seen and read about many people getting Primes with sub primes on their reports. creditreformer
try for ba partially secured cc (99/500). you have to app for a regular cc first- i apped for platinum plus (supp the easiest to get). i didn't get it (scores were in the high 500s @ the time), but i did get the 99/500. yes, it's not glamorous to have 'secured' show on reports, but it's a foot in w/a PRIME bank w/o having to put down a big security deposit.i'd also app for a target red or other store card...perhaps a gas card....fico likes diversity in your tradelines.try the preapproval links out there- BA, hsbc, cap 1, amex, newport news, spiegel, and a few others (blanking on them- sorry) have preapproval links.read the secured cc terms very carefully- not all auto graduate. I had all wrong, I guess. I thought it was 'better' to have a sub prime card, unsecured than a prime card that reports as secured. I see, that's my problem. (I've been turned down for Target and various gas cards)I'll be getting a secured card through my CU. I appreciate the replies.
Macattack
OMG.I just wanted to update this a little... perhaps I'm just venting. So, yesterday I went down to my CU with a copy of my CR in hand. I Just wanted them to look at the report I provided and say if they would feel comfortable giving me a card. Then, based on that, I would OK their pull on my CR. The loan officer, applauded the "good thinking" and asked for her boss to review it. Just to make sure. Well, Mrs. Bank Mgr. came out and informed me that under no circumstance would she tell me what she "thought of the paper report". Insisting that she must pull my credit before discussing the matter with me. I asked again, pleaded, just to please look at it and say if it was hopeless or not. She wouldn't even glance down at it. Nothing. All she would say further was, "If you have bad credit, we will decline you, sir." (Well, no ****, Shurlock)That bitch was so condescending over the issue. Very nasty tone of voice, very mean spirited. Did her very best to embarrass us... I'm pissed.Ultimately, I'd like to head back down there on Monday and cash out/withdraw everything. It's almost worth the penalties....Snotty bitch.
torikid
I am sorry. I can empathize with your humiliation. A credit union SHOULD be the type of company you can work with and put a face with the credit. As others have mentioned, what happened to the good ole days. This is done largely to protect themselves. They use a number for one and must use it for all.
whocares
Maybe you could do a secured loan, then try for a card after a little history from the loan.I know you were embarassed...I was many times too, does not help in the self esteem dept...But soon you will be sparkling again and make sure you never have to feel that feeling again..Good Luck
