So I had an account closed and sent to a CA by my bank. I have not received any correspondence from the CA yet. I have to get this squared away. Since I have to deal w/the CA, how should I go about it? The debt is mine. I am willing to make an arrangement. How do I go about getting a suitable arrangement for payment as well as having any info on my report removed? I haven't pulled my credit yet, but was getting ready to anyway, as I wanted to see the condition of my credit, so I am not sure how it is even showing.

First you do need to pull your credit before you take any action.

If the CA is reporting the account and reporting it accurately, I would then find out who owns the account. If the bank still owns it, I would negotiate a PFD with them, not the CA. If the CA owns it and is legally allowed to collect in your state, make the same arrangements with them. You can write to them. What you've read is true, it's not a good idea for someone in your position to get on the phone with a CA.

You do have a choice. Don't deal with them over the phone. If you choose to do so, keep in mind that you might not have a positive outcome and you won't have any documentation should the CA begin to violate any type of "agreement" that you setup with them.

That being said, your option other than waiting for the dunning from the CA and then DV'ing is to get in touch with your bank and see if you can pay them and have them pull the account back from the CA. They do have the power to do that and are more likely if you're willing to pay.
