deltadawn
The Olympics are inspiring - so many records have been broken...My favorite part is when they receive their medals - it sends chills down my spine.

stefdr
Haven't really paid much attention to it. Does anyone think anything will be done about the underage gymnasts on the Chinese team?
borgman72000
Haven't really paid much attention to it. Does anyone think anything will be done about the underage gymnasts on the Chinese team?In typical Olympic fashion, they'll do an investigation, and in 3-4 years, they'll take the medals away from the Chinese for having underage gymnasts and give them to the people who placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. J_Snow
mmm... no... the investigation was completed. The IOC checked their passports and since the passports showed that they were of age, that ended the case. There was nothing else the IOC could do.I suspect that there is going to be a *lot* of stuff that comes out after the games; much worse than the underage gymnists. JustaTexan
Did anybody watch the women's vault last night? I almost threw my glass of wine at the tv! The poor little American gymnast came in fourth but I seriously think she was screwed out a medal. One of the Chinese girls actually fell forward on her knees and received a high score still. One news commentator was so angry about it that I actually started giggling. Not because of what he was saying but because he had a really thick accent and well I guess I am easily amused. Anyhow it was a big crock of dog poop.
LeslieR
Deanna, I watched that and I could not figure out for the life of me what the hell happened. The Korean vaulter almost fell - her step was way bigger than the one Alicia took. I still don't get it...at all. They were cheering for the Korean vaulter like she'd had a perfect performance. JustaTexan
Did you watch it on NBC? Did you see the commentary almost right afterwards with the guy with the accent? He was really upset about it! Edited to add: Dammit! You know I like to posts my significant post #'s on the post whores thread!! I hit 1000! JustaTexan
My personal theory is that either it's a huge Chinese conspiracy or I think they were hating on Alicia because she's got a little body on her and most of those other gymnasts aren't "blessed." If ya know what I mean.
LeslieR
I turned it off before the event was even over - it was late and I was pissed.

He was really upset about it! Edited to add: Dammit! You know I like to posts my significant post #'s on the post whores thread!! I hit 1000! That guy is Bella Karoli...if you remember Kerri Strug getting carried up to the podium in 1996...that was her coach. And his wife still coaches many of the US Gymnasts today. (You'll see them hug and older lady..that's her).I agree that the Alicia was 'ripped off' as Bella was saying, but it was still close. They did make mention that Alicia's start values for her two vaults were 6.3 and 5.8. The Chinese and Korean both had 6.5 start values. So even if they made mistakes, and had a lower execution score, they could theoretically beat Alicia's score with the combination of their start value.Plus, the Chinese girl did do an excellen first vault, getting a score of 16.075, which helped her. If she had not done that well on that vault, Alicia would have gotten the bronze.
JustaTexan
Wow you know your Olympics! I still think Alicia should have gotten a medal, not one of the other girls. I was shocked when they announced that one girls score.
LeslieR
I thought the Asian girl was from Korea, not China. The one I am talking about was in the white and light blue trim leotard.
JustaTexan
I know the one I'm talking about the one that looked very very young. Her name was something like Cheng Fe, or something simple like that, and she was repping China. The Korean took the gold I thought. and she deserved hers, but not that Chinese. She landed on her knees for cying out loud. Her 1st go was great-but that second run did not deserve the score it received.
lovebug5
As God as my witness, I shall never tune into any type of Chinese gymnastics again. When the American team walked up to the edge of the cliff, God neither taught them to fly nor helped them land safely. Instead he pointed down at the little 12 year old Chinese girls and laughed.(No seriously...Between the opening ceremonies scandal and the team gymnastics start of that scandal, I had to stop watching. Although Michael Phelps is truly an amazing athlete, I could not swallow giving my ratings to the Olympics or any sponsor of the Olympics since nothing is being done...And absolutely nothing will be done. It's a shame and China should be beyond embarrassed. Their gymnasts? Incredible. 16 years old? No way.)
JustaTexan
Anybody else seeing this crap? You have got to be kidding me. It shouldn't even have gone to a tie........What's sad it that the gold "winner" didn't even seem to thrilled. I think she knew she wasn't as good as Nastia. And I don't claim to be an expert but I thought the bronze winner was better than the gold "winner."

stefdr
Gymnastics? Swimming? Not interesting enough. The only real sport at any Olympics are the race walkers. Truly the sport of champions. I am a race walking groupie. I will take the day off of work and sit glued to the TV when the race walkers are on.
