rying to find a needle in a haystack

Goal - to have negative medical (dental) bill removed from CR.

I may be trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Dental insurance was provided by my employer. DH was on the policy.

Dentist evidently combined our bills into one and the bill was addressed to me(deductable was not paid).

The combined bill went into collections and was reported on both reports.

The CR show that each of us was a "participant on account" for the total amount and does show paid.

Does having the same insurance policy allow the creditor to combine a bill or would that be in violation of the HIPAA? The Insurance Provider does send me a copy of the payment benefits; however, all other Medical Providers do not list our accounts together.

I know that I am grasping at straws and am not interested in legal suits - I just want it off our CR's.

Who owns this debt right now? Chances are, the dentist still does and has given it to a CA.

Have you tried calling the dentist and just working it out? Just ask them if they'll pull it out of collection if you send them payment in full. The CA can no longer report if the dentist pulls it back.

No offense intended but I would suggest you not obsess about this one, insignificant negative tradeline (I’m making the educated guess that this is the same matter about which you’ve posted many times before).

One negative tradeline will not make or break your credit report and its affect is weakened with every day that passes…I’d suggest you’ll be much further ahead to concentrate your efforts on not doing anything that would add new negatives while concurrently do things that will add positive information to your credit history.

Just my $0.02

Thanks Leslie and Robert. I appreciate your 2 cents worth.

I don't want you to think that I am not concentrating on adding positive info to my credit history - I am in the process of repairing my credit and have just been "multi-tasking" to see if there was anything I could do about the negative items that I have in 2005.

When I first joined this forum, I had no idea what credit repair was about. This forum has really opened my eyes.

My main focus in my credit repair is my cc utilization. My overall utilization was at 11%; however, I was at 80% utilization on 1 cc and 90% on the other. (Probably should have been using CC with higher CL - but used cards with lower interest rate instead)

Since joining this forum in late Jul, I have reduced those 2 CC down to 50% utilization (Aug and Sep payments) - not great; but the best I could do with my resources.

My goal is to get my utilization down to 35% by the end of Dec. It may be a little unrealistic and may be Feb before I reach that accomplishment.

I have set goals to reduce my utilization in 5% increments so that I can see some sort of personal progress.

I do have 1 unpaid medical collection (from 2005) that I will be paying; however, I am going through an appeal process through the Insurance Provider on that issue - and once it is denied, I will contact the collection agency and ask for a PFD.

This forum has helped so many consumers "getting back on track" - especially me. Thanks.

I have tried....but it still haunts me. I have 2 paid medical's that I would like to see off my reports. Yes they were mine - and I have tried to reconcile myself that they will remain on my report for 7.5 years. I realize that this is the consequences.

However, the CA is reporting incorrectly. Even though I have tried to let go, I still go back and review it.

The incorrect reporting has to do with DOFD.

1 states DOFD 11/05 with terms 1month - which service was provided 3/05 - It would benefit me for them to correct the DOFD so that it will fall off my report earlier (by approximately 7 months).

The 2nd states DOFD 02/05 - service was provided 3/05 - so I have to assume it would not benefit me for this to be corrected.

Should I decide to pursue this discreptancy, would I write CRA with proof (copy of bill in question)? I assume that they will just adjust the DOFD. Or should I write the CA and ask them to either report accurately or delete the TL?

These are paid. So, you can go ahead and do both. May or may not work. At the very least you'll get them updated. But how would that help you?

I may be thinking illogically - but, if the DOFD would be 04/05 (CR shows terms 1month and service was in 03/05) and fall off my CR earlier than a DOFD of 11/05(which is what is being reported).

Leslie - on another thread you wrote

Do the accounts have the MED1 notation next to them on the reports you view? It's important that it does. If the MED 1 doesn't appear, you probably have a HIIPA violation.

On 2 of my CR it shows medical - however, on EX it just shows paid / closed / collection account.

Also it names the doctor in the orig creditor on all 3

Yeah, but for most TLs, you can dispute them a few months early as "obsolete" and in most case they will delete early. That's been my experience anyway.
