Hothead
Hello Everyone,I am a NEWBIE as you can see! I have at least 5 accounts that were sent to collections, now they are paid collections as it states on my CR (found this site after paying, don't hold that against me). So I was wondering who do I GW? The OC or the CA since they sent them collections? Is this even the best approach?
Robert Nashville/Savannah
You can try disputing (finding something truly incorrect is the best way to get some results) or you can try the GW method - you direct requests like that to whatever entity is doing the reporting.Keep in mind that a collection you've already paid is very difficult to deal with however, a paid collection has a constantly decreasing impact on your credit history with each passing day.Concentrating on doing "good things" for your credit history and not doing anything that would cause more harm is probably where you should concentrated your efforts. Flyingifr
The time to argue this is before you pay them, not after. You can send a GW letter to anyone you want - expect both the OC's and the CA's to ignore them because they already have what they want - why should they make any concessions for you? Robert Nashville/Savannah
No, you aren’t “screwed”.Hopefully you paid these collections because they were your debts/you owed them. If so, then the real damage to your credit history was done when the debts weren’t paid as agreed.A paid bad debt is a “negative” but as I said before, its impact decreases every day. With any third-party trying to collect a debt, you start the DV process...when/if it's time to pay up, you can try to arrange for a PFD (assuming they are reporting at all).
