Target Redcard Upgrade to Visa info

Recommended Posts

Just called to cancel my Target redcard. When they asked why I said low limit blah-blah. Anyways the cancellation lady said that Target is aiming to roll out upgrades of redcards to the Target Visa in January. She said they planned to do it this fall but the state of the economy made them hold off. So she claims they are aiming to upgrade some Redcards in January FWIW.

i think you have to have the 500 CL to get the upgrade. i'm waiting on my upgrade to 500 as my stmt cuts tonight. i 've heard some people randomly do NOT get the auto CLI to 500, so i won't believe that i'll get 500 until i see it.

If I'm not mistaken, we got our Redcards more or less the same time. (I think I got mine a bit after you got yours) If you get your CLI, please let me know and I will try to do the same. They have definitely been getting used, so I can't see why I cannot get some love.

i got my target red towards the end of may. 3 stmts have cut. 1 was supposed to cut yesterday, but it's not showing online. i've used mine as follows (estimate)-

1st mo.

1st day i got it- maxed it out (target made me put $200 of the $300 purchase on there).

paid it off and then ran another 100-150 through it

let $25 report

2nd mo.

ran approx. 200 through it- let 5 or 10 report

3rd mo.

ran about 100 through it- let report 5

4th mo. (stmt hasn't cut yet)

0 use, so 0 balance

i've heard different things- some say target wants A LOT of use/nearly max it out and PIF (like cap 1- 2-3x the CL/mo.), others say target wants 'average/fair use' but not max it out, others say they want a balance. still others say they've never gotten the CLI to 500.

i figured i've mixed it up pretty well, so hopefully target will CLI me. if not, maybe they'll give me a visa upgrade. think i read of 1-2 people letting the card sit for about 6-12 mos. (w/o a cli to 500) and then getting a visa upgrade.

some of these cc cos are schizo when you try to figure them out hahaha

I'll be very interested to know if this actually takes place, as every other rumor about the Red Card upgrades within the past year have been nothing but hot smoke up everyone's butts. CSR's with TNB told me via Email and telephone about three months ago that although some Red Cards had been upgraded in the past, this was not normal procedure. I was specifically told that Red Card holders looking to graduate to the Visa needed to apply for the Visa and go through the customary credit checks to see if they're eligible, and that TNB would not be "upgrading" cards to the Visa in the future.

I've had my Target card for nearly one full year. I was upgraded to the $500 CL after three months and have been patiently waiting to see if this upgrade rumor is factual. If they're planning on starting the process in January, as claimed, it'll be after my 1 year anniversary...And based solely upon my credit at this point, I should be guaranteed the upgrade.

If not, my Target card will sit in my sock drawer along with everything else that I impulsively applied for with no purpose. :)

My story is the same as LB's, except that I've had it for TWO years.

I recently had to call CS for something and the CSR swore that they do upgrades, and that it's not a rumor. I told her that I'm not seeing any soft pulls by Target, and she told me that she knows a lot of the upgrade decisions are made on internal behavior. However, the more questions I asked, the more it was clear that she had minimal knowledge of the whole process. We had quite the little conversation and in the end I felt bad because I knew I had pushed her beyond her job description. :) But in a friendly way.

She did admit that if I really wanted the Visa, that I should just apply for it.

Have had a Target Red card for three years now. Have all three CR above 700. Still sitting at a $200 limit. Have PIF, charged up, charged down, paid some, paid all, paid early, paid more than due, etc... Still sitting at $200. Called Target several times and have always been told that a CLI is not happening -- never had an AR, or soft pull. I give up. Am canceling and moving on. A $200 card really messes with your ratio and is not worth it.

See ya.

I will have had my Target red card for 2 years in December. I was given the CLI to 500.00 at the 3 month mark, right on schedule with what others had said but nothing since. I use it routinely, have never been late. I haven't even had a soft pull from them since March. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what they do. The economy is pretty scary right now, isn't it?

I think that's for the VISA, not the redcard...

the Red Card CS line specifically says they don't take requests.

I just called the number you gave and it asked for the last four digits of my number, and then it didn't recognize them. The Red Card is in groups of three, not four numbers...unlike regular Visa cards.

target seems schizo. i got the card b/c i rarely shop and target is one of the few stores i DO shop @. since i had no store ccs @ the time (i now have fabulous CJ), target red seemed like a good choice as i WILL use it and it will diversify my reports. the visa upgrade would be nice, but even if i don't get it, i'll still use the target cc. unlike my orchards/first premiers, it has NO AF, so even if it sits in my sockdrawer now and then, i won't regret opening it.

My little sister's redcard was recently upgraded from $200 store card to $5,000 Visa. (The statement message is in red and pasted below) So, it still happens, for those who are curious and/or skeptical. She was very excited, as she adores all things Target!

FWIW, softpulled EQ in August, don't know scores; I'd estimate low 700 with zero derogs..

I got my Target through a recon. I got the increase to $500 after 3 months like most do.
